Deutsche Grammophon feels immensely blessed and proud to be releasing together with Accentus Music Bruckner’s Symphony No. 9 in D Minor, which was recorded as part of Abbado’s final concert.
The concert was recorded by Accentus Music during the 75th Lucerne Festival in 2013 with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.

The album cover reminds me of Monk by the Sea, an oil painting that the German romantic artist Caspar David Friedrich (1774–1840) created in 1810, the year when Schumann was born. Schumann has two sides of his personality: young Schumann, who was filled with musical, literary inspirations and dreams, and later Schumann, who was consumed by madness and darkness. Pianist Kun-Woo Paik looks like a traveller who is about to step towards the sky. When you take a closer look, you realize that the landscape isn’t real but a wall. Here the sky, a symbol of universe and infinity, is restraint and restriction.
Paik is a real romanticist who believes in love. Picasso once said it took a lifetime to paint like a child. He also has never lost the boy in him. For this, he became a philosopher. A boy and a philosopher.

Lang Lang first began exploring this masterpiece more than 20 years ago and presents this record as the outcome of a long personal and emotional journey. Marking a new stage in Lang Lang's artistic development, it is the project of a lifetime.
“I’m now 38 and, while that’s not old, I think the time was right for a new stage in my artistic development,” comments Lang Lang. “I’ve moved into new terrain with the Goldberg Variations and really immersed myself fully in this project. My goal as an artist is to keep becoming more self-aware and more knowledgeable, as well as to keep offering inspiration to others. Krystian Zimerman is a Polish pianist and conductor, who has been described as one of the finest living pianists. In 1975, he won the IX International Chopin Piano Competition.
