金铨老遗作，前面生活向的段落拍得极其不错，美术考究，包袱儿也铺得很克制。只是后面法王的出现和主线剧情略显割裂，仿佛是借了画皮的壳讲了一个聂小倩的故事，不通畅。后面的斗法场景大量使用烟火特技，法王被一张塑料薄膜困住，叹为观止。片尾所表达的「在非阴非阳的地界画皮度日」多少也暗合了导演漂泊半生的经历。
