Shocking disappointment from Osgood Perkins. I genuinely consider the man to be one of modern horror cinema's premiere talents. This doesn't feel like something he made. Perhaps because he didn't write it? That's only happened once before. The plot is unexpectedly basic, dull, and unimaginative. Altogether lacking the originality creative frights of the director's other works. There's a welcome sense of weirdness, an incredible performance from Tatiana Maslany, and my goodness when the monsters finally get brought into the light are they suitably freaky that all act as factors that made me wish I enjoyed this more. Unfortunately, the utter lack of terror and pacing that moves at a snail's pace pulled me out of the experience. You can tell the incessant, odd stylistic visual flourishes in nearly every seen were Perkins way of trying to inject some life into a script that I believe he too could tell was more boring than scary.

Silly B-movie for dads. It’s ridiculous, overly dramatic, sporting some rather low-budget production values in spots, and more than a little dumb. Yet, not unentertaining in a turn your brain off and enjoy the schlock sort of way. It’s about the same caliber as one of those borderline straight-to-DVD action/thriller flicks a lot of the B-list stars from the ‘80s regularly starred in. Shows real potential for Chris Pratt to go that route in the future should the MCU run out of ways to keep Star-Lord around. Man, I swear though nearly everyone in that cinematic universe needs a new agent, because when they aren’t playing superheroes it seems like most of them are appearing in crap like this. Still, Mercy is mindless, lazy streaming day on the couch fun nonetheless.

Peaks in its penultimate episode with a terrifying stalk/chase sequence that makes up the first half and more varied scenery than any of the rest in this 22-episode YouTube series. It's an intriguing concept and an impressive display of talent from someone who was literally a teenager when they created most of this. Unfortunately, it's a little meandering, dull, and aimless most of the time. Plus, the more the "lore" of the Backrooms is created, revealed, and explored the less interesting the whole thing becomes. Hoping the feature-length movie (also directed by Kane Parsons) really helps me finally understand why so many find this particular slice of internet-derived horror so scary, because outside of that aforementioned 21st chapter of expertly crafted tension, these endless yellow hallways and goofy looking tangled strands of fungus monsters don't frighten me in the slightest.
