Fifths Of Seven算是另一支Godspeed You Black Emperor家族的乐团,毕竟来自加拿大蒙特利尔的他们,女大提琴手Beckie Foon是来自Silver Mt. Zion、Set Fire To Flames和Esmerine,而女Mandolin手Rachel Levine则跟Alexandre St-Onge组成过Cakelk(这位Alexandre正是GYBE分支Et Sans的成员),那已令Fifths Of Seven绝对可以出现在GYBE的家族图上,再加上Wolf Parade的钢琴手Spencer Krug(又名Sunset Rubdown),便构成他们这队Trio乐团。
然而Fifths Of Seven并不是另一支Post-Rock/Avant-Rock乐队,他们所打造出,是充满思古幽情的Neo-Classical音乐。乐团的首张专辑Spry From Bitter Anise Folds,是交由法国的Les Disques Du Soleil et De L’acier厂牌出版,一张满溢著Poetic Beauty而发人深省的唱片,诗意、忧愁、古雅、纯美──据说唱片公司收到乐团从加国寄来的CD后不够一个小时,便马上联络他们。
把Fifths Of Seven介定为新古典,但他们却非典型的室乐团,毕竟阵中有一位Mandolin手──一队由大提琴、钢琴和Mandolin构成的Trio,的确有点非比寻常。
Beckie哀怨缠绵的大提琴仍是那么教人怦然心动(甚至心碎);Spencer的钢琴在思古幽情之餘也处处流露著Erik Satie的「傢俬音乐」对他的影响(偶意他也会弹手风琴),像他的钢琴独奏曲目Waiting便宛如Satie(甚至John Cage)的钢琴音乐作品之薰陶;而Rachel一手鏗鏘的Mandolin,却为Fifths Of Seven优雅的音乐添上一份古朴的民谣(民间)风味。
比方如Echoes From A Wandered Path在Spencer的典雅探戈钢琴与Rachel充满民族风情的Mandolin之间,彷彿奏出了月色下的神秘美丽。
然而他们并非一支纯粹要古雅盎然的乐队,所以Bless Our Wandering Dreamers的氛围化演奏,正流露出是Fifths Of Seven的现代乐派的倾向。
