1집 음반 [Communion, 2016] 이후 2년 만에 발표하는 박지하의 신보 [Philos, 2018].
[Philos]는 피리, 생황, 양금 등 박지하가 연주하는 여러 악기로 만든 소리와, 시간과 공간 안에서 발현되는 소리를 쌓아 만든 총 8트랙의 기록이다. 다른 연주자들과의 협업 없이 여러 시간 안의 박지하가 지속적인 작업을 통해 얻은 결과물이다.
음반에 등장하는 모든 소리의 도착과 시작을 이야기하는 첫 곡 'Arrival', 한여름 무더위 속 예고 없이 찾아온 빗소리가 내려준 선물 같은 곡 'Thunder Shower', 2015년 화엄음악제 무대로 한국을 찾았던 레바논의 예술가 디마 엘사예드 (Dima El Sayed)가 박지하의 소리에서 모티브를 얻어 직접 쓰고 낭독한 시를 담은 트랙 'Easy', 오랜 시간과 소리의 중첩으로 만들어진 타이틀곡 'Philos', 서울의 소리를 실시간으로 함께 담은 'Walker: In Seoul', 양금과 생황의 담백하고도 아름다운 선율이 돋보이는 'When I Think Of Her' 등 총 8트랙으로 이루어져 있다.

William Basinski’s reputation as the foremost producer of profound meditations on death and decay has long been established, but on his new album, Lamentations, he transforms operatic tragedy into abyssal beauty. More than any other work since The Disintegration Loops, there is an ominous grief throughout the album, and that sense of loss lingers like an emotional vapor.Captured and constructed from tape loops and studies from Basinski’s archives – dating back to 1979 – Lamentations is over forty years of mournful sighs meticulously crafted into songs. They are shaped by the inevitable passage of time and the indisputable collapsing of space – and their collective resonance is infinite and eternal.

le serpent blanc and le serpent rouge are the antithesis of one another - as simple as the serpent's split tongue or left and right, positive and negative, good and evil - whereas the former delves deeper into the cause and effect of saccidic movement, the latter is of an introspective nature.

"Phyidar" Musica Maxima Magnetica EEE13 (1992)
"Phyidar" may be defined as the "second broadcasting" of the (Buddhist) "doctrine" in Tibet. It has deep connections with the history of Buddhism - as Buddhism was initiall y introduced in Tibet during the VII th century and was eclipsed during the late IX th, the X th and the early XI th century. There was a second "broadcasting" of the (Buddhist) doctrine in Tibet in the early XI th century.
This first CD of Raksha Mancham is a compilation of the first three vynil albums of the band, plus several new tracks.

Starlight Serenade from keyboardist Vivian Khor displays the artist talents on both piano and electronic keyboards, as she fleshes out her warm and accessible melodies on the ivories with assorted synthesized embellishments, whether they be the more usual strings (such as on the aptly titled Serenity), or more adventurous keyboard ventures (kalimba samples and contemporary midtempo beats on Love Buffet or shimmering bell tones on Winter Play). Most of the CD tracks are low-key and soothing, and should prove easy to enjoy if you’re a fan of piano-based classic new age music. Sometimes, Khor eschews her acoustic instrument and heads in a wholly electronic direction. Abbey With Me features lush strings playing the lead melody while After Glow (the one truly uptempo piece here, but not so much as to come across as jarring) is resplendent in an assortment of synths including programmed midtempo rhythms and a variety of new age instrumental effects, one of which resembles the sparkling guitar sound of Bruce BecVar. Listeners seeking a calm peaceful album for playing during quiet times should welcome Starlight Serenade, as straight-forward and unpretentious a new age music release as I’ve heard in recent memory.

What Helios' previous release on Type lacked in character has been fixed by Ayres, no doubt about it. Eingya featured pleasant and clever quasi post-rock, which this album now turns into delightful electro-folk. It turns out that the previous album was missing only one ingredient: vocals! For the first time here, Keith Kenniff (the man behind the Helios moniker) sings, with a very nice, quiet, and frail voice. The opening track, "A Rising Wind," with its multi-tracked looped vocals and aerial ambience, immediately brings to mind Patrick Watson's sound world (minus the electric guitar) crossed with Brian Eno's. This highly melodic, slow-paced song could also be compared to Low, Barzin, or Uphill Racer. The remainder of the album is somewhat less striking yet quite convincing nonetheless, from the delicate guitar arrangements in "Woods and Gives Away" (where the sleigh bells and treated vocals evoke an unlikely hybrid between the Iditarod and Tujiko Noriko, if you can envision that) to the lulling melody of the waltz-like "The Obeisant Vine." This short album (only a half hour) concludes with a cover of "In Heaven," a song from David Lynch's cult film Eraserhead. Rounding out such a short album with someone else's song could be construed as a sign of weakness, but it actually fits the record's overall atmosphere so well that Kenniff could have you think it's one of his own pieces. Eingya felt like a beautiful country house decorated with subtle taste. With Ayres, that house is now inhabited. ~ Fran鏾is Couture

The second release from the japonese label Schole is a collaboration between AKIRA KOSEMURA and HARUKA NAKAMURA. Both are from Tokyo and starting to attract people’s attention by taking part in many compilation inside and outside Japan. AKIRA KOSEMURA has for example just released an other album on the australian label Someone Good (lead by Lawrence English). The album “Afterglow” is created with light sounds. It resembles the end of summer and surely puts the words of remembrance and memoir together.
