The Sound of Young New York compilations have made quite an impact over the past two years. With reviews in all the major UK and US magazines a worldwide awareness has grown and each compilation is met with an enthusiastic audience. Installment number three is called The Sound of Young New York and Toronto.

Plant decided that it couldn’t hurt to add a few tracks from Toronto and the whole Vol 1, 2, 3 thing is a little lame. Again this compilation is delivered as a DJ mix on CD and unmixed on 2LP. It Showcases some new talent: These Bones, Alister Doomington (Stretch Armstrong’s new band), Neurotic Drum Band (John Selway and DJ Ulysses band) and some who are more familiar. Still trying to capture the energy of New York nightlife, the comp starts off pretty banging and punky and then gets a little more electronic and then chills out at the end. It is compiled by Dominique Keegan and mixed by The Glass (you may notice we always put one of their tracks on, why not?). The theme seems to lean more towards bands and also DJs who have now formed bands, it is vocal heavy and is guaranteed to rock any party and will, no doubt, be responsible for a few speeding tickets.

The Sound of Young New York (Vol. I) surpassed expectations with regard to how well received it was by press, consumers and even DJs and industry types. In compiling a second volume it was important to change the mold of the mix CD a little. Where as the first compilation draws from quite a tight net of artists and remixers in a certain scene in New York at the time, the second attempts to stretch a little further from the world of indie dance to also include some hip hop and rock artists.

The CD is, of course, mixed DJ style for optimum enjoyment (again by Dominique and DJ Wool), allows us to make bands that may be less dance leaning come off a little bit more so and also flow the way a DJ can and an MP3 player cannot.

Included in this volume are tunes from !!! (pronounced Chk Chk Chk) whose album on Touch and Go has created much excitement and Elefant. Wu Tang's RZA also appears here with French producers I:Cube. Exclusive tracks are featured from The Glass, Itchy Revolutions, and The Voices. Output Recordings new darlings Dead Combo, whose live performances have been creating quite a stir are also included as well as Vice record's The Stills, Ursula 1000's remix of The Faint and hip house artist D'Boldiss.

The Sound of Young New York represents a time and place in New York's vibrant music scene. Compiled and mixed by Dominique Keegan, owner of Plant Music and Plant Bar, The Sound of Young New York attempts to compile music from a variety of New York producers and artists that have surfaced over the past year. The ever so publicized DFA production duo of James Murphy & Tim Goldsworthy can be found in their remixes of Metro Area's "Orange Alert" and Radio 4's "Dance To The Underground". DFA label favorites The Rapture are featured on a rework of > "Music Kills Me".

Much of the sound being represented comes from the mix of indie kids being exposed to dance music in Plant Bar and at Plant parties, such as Plant's three year residency at New York's Centro-Fly. All of these crews have solid New York followings that have defined underground New York nightlife in Williamsburg and Downtown Manhattan.
