Jackdaw
Larry Conklin & Jochen Blum

Little-known local album of haunting UK-style folk with 12-string and violin. One acoustic 6-string guitar, one fiddle and one 12-string guitar, that is mostly what this dou need to create the visions and spirit of this album. All the songs have a remote and somewhat desolate feel about them, but also joy and wonder, in a very (in my mind) down to earth yet spiritual set of songs. "Alathea" is prime example of a folk ballade, and one of the best songs here. "Water and time" that follows start with a 12-string solo calls to mind Robbie Basho, with free improvisation.
Here's hands down one of my favorite Seattle private press LP's. About half of the album is instrumental with Larry Conklin on guitar and Jochen Blum playing violin and 12 string guitar. Definitely brings to mind Fahey/Basho/Hecht etc. The tracks with vocals have a haunting, sparse feel to them, the loner folk tag fits the bill on this one. Excellent Seattle private press LP from 1981.
