现在的Over The Rhine是一个纯正的夫妻乐队：妻子Karin Bergquist身兼乐队的主唱和吉他；丈夫Linford Detweiler负责贝斯和钢琴的部分，偶尔也客串一下吉他手。最早先乐队刚成立的时候，一共有四名成员，加上吉他手Ric Hordinski和鼓手 Brian Kelley。这四个人分别来自美国的俄亥俄州和辛辛那提州。他们的乐队名字“Over The Rhine“实际上是两个州之间的一片地区，就叫”Over-The-Rhine“。那个地区从前多是德国移民居住，他们中的很多人常常要经过迈阿密州和辛辛那提州之间伊利运河上的桥；于是这些德国佬就想象着把运河当作莱茵河，把河对岸的那片地叫做” Over-The-Rhine“。乐队取这个名字，蕴含了“像彩虹一样搭起莱茵河两岸的桥梁来维系友谊”这样的希望。
Karin1984年高中毕业后，考入Malone College，在那里遇见了她未来的爱人Linford。这支成军于1989的乐队前几年一直在大学附近的酒吧驻唱。那时来酒吧听他们唱歌的人实在不多；另一方面，酒店的舞台条件也很寒碜。结果Linford和Karin两个人反而索性点起蜡烛，到距离观众很近的地方弹唱，颇有氛围。他们的最初的名声就是靠一点一滴这么累积起来的。签约到了Scampering Songs，发行了Debut Album《Till We Have Faces》，他们的名气渐渐传开，获得了为一些大牌的歌手譬如Bob Dylan、Adrian Belew作演唱会的开场的机会。Cowboy Junkies甚至邀他们作为附属成员（Adjunct Members）跟着到处巡演。等到03年的以家乡命名的专辑《Ohio》发行之前，他们已经积累了相当的人气，显然已经不是从前的三流酒吧乐队了。这张在Virgin唱片的Back Porch Records厂牌下发行的专辑，收获的几乎都是积极的评论。《Paste Magazine》杂志甚至把它的第一个五颗星评价给了这张专辑，赞誉《Ohio》为“真诚的忏悔杰作”。05年3月，乐队发行了又一张真情之作《Drunkard‘s Prayer》。专辑名字听上去像一匹赛马，而专辑的封面正好也是一匹优美的白马。Linford解释说，人生就像赛马，虽然获胜的可能微乎其微，但是还是要毅然决然的把所有赌注押上去。专辑里的歌曲给人的感觉就像是讲述两个几乎失去一切的人走上回家的路。
07年8月21号，Over The Rhine预订发行新专辑《The Trumpet Child》。这张水准依旧的专辑也是电影《Coen Brother》的电影原声。互联网上早就已经有提前泄露的版本。Karin依旧一副是绝好的爵士嗓，慵懒但是充满爱意，让我想到PJ Harvey。(文/Nirvananana,感谢！)

「Barcelone」如清晨曙光的美妙钢琴拉开这首歌曲明亮的序幕，流畅如溪涧的旋律，绝对是夏日降温的良伴。专辑同名曲「Nos ballades」多了几分豁达的况味，但仍听得出骨子裡那一丝不足为人道的寂寞，一种极为私密的情绪，就在Iris如天使般的嗓音中，缓缓地展现出一抹宽慰的微笑。 略带诙谐、活泼的「Bed and Breakfast」后，「Un coin tranquille à Shibuya」歌唱着Pierre前往涩谷的经验，在极度喧闹都会中意外发现的静谧桃源，以及那些做萝丽塔、歌德系女孩给他的启发，是一份独特的旅游记忆。
充满活力、与其它歌曲风格大异其趣的「Le thé（feat. Timothy Rabbit）」以充满活力的姿态，自嘲了一次失恋的纪念。温柔美丽的「Un ange qui passe」与以吉他营造出清新氛围的「Pour l'instant」之后，「Les Rues Tranquilles」也以轻快的旋律，诉说了身为旅人，在陌生城市迷路、探索的那份新鲜感与小小冒险；Iris的嗓音在此听来特别轻俏甜美。

Like Coralie Clément, Keren Ann may not have the widest range, but she makes the most of it. Her vocals are light, delicate, and pretty, as if she has found a way to combine talking, whispering, and singing into one fluid approach (and as if she has listened to a few Astrud Gilberto albums in her time). La Biographie de Luka Philipsen was the French singer/songwriter's debut and many of the songs were co-written with longtime associate Benjamin Biolay (Clément's older brother). Biolay also produced, played several instruments (guitar, trumpet, and trombone), and provided the orchestral arrangements. The pleasing results are somewhat like a modern-day Serge Gainsbourg-Françoise Hardy collaboration. They even duet on one song, "Decrocher les Etoiles." Consequently, Biolay has often been compared to Gainsbourg, and Keren Ann has often been compared to Hardy, but Keren Ann -- like Biolay -- is a multi-instrumentalist, as well, and plays guitar and clarinet on the album. In addition, she has written songs for other artists, most notably Henri Salvador. The Brazilian-sounding "Jardin d'Hiver," which appears on La Biographie (and was co-written by Biolay), first showed up on Salvador's Chambre Avec Vue. It became a big hit for the 83-year-old French jazz musician and would garner awards (like the prestigious Victoires de la Musique) and considerable acclaim for Keren Ann and Biolay.

Championed by Geoff Travis (who discovered The Smiths and manages Pulp and Beth Orton), Cara Dillon has one of the most beautiful voices to emerge from the Celtic scene in recent years. Her latest effort, After The Morning (her first release in the US) establishes her uncanny ability to wed traditional influences to contemporary folk sounds and themes. The album was produced by Sam Lakeman (both were former members of the group The Equation) and features an appearance from Paul Brady on the duet The Streets of Derry. After The MorningÂ’s first single, Never In A Million Years, garnered heavy airplay from BBC2 in the UK, was the single of the week on BBC Radio Ulster and earned Cara a spot at this yearÂ’s Cambridge Folk Festival. Dillon is no stranger to success. In 2002 she was nominated for four and walked away with two BBC Awards: Best Traditional Track (for Black is the Colour) & the Horizon (Best Newcomer) Award. In 2004 she was honored with the Irish Meteor Award for Best Female Singer and the Irish Tattler Woman of the Year Music Award. It comes as no surprise that Q Magazine would assert that "...Dillon's vocals, expressive beyond her years, are right on the money."

Born in 1975 and raised in Dungiven, Co. Derry, Cara comes from a family steeped in traditional Irish music. At 14 years old she won the acclaimed All Ireland Traditional Singing Trophy and from there went on to earn her reputation as an outstanding vocalist with the young Irish band, Oige. In 1995 Cara replaced singer Kate Rusby in the new folk super-group, The Equation. It was as a member of The Equation that CaraÂ’s musical partnership with Equation co-founder Sam Lakeman began, and since the mid-90s when the two left the band that partnership has developed at a rapid pace. Unusually sophisticated and yet completely unpretentious, their music reveals refreshing imagination and considerable flair and it belies the fact that they are both in their early 30s. While Cara Dillon is still relatively unknown on this side of the pond, After The Morning is sure to make her a favorite of North American folk music fans.
