The celebrated contemporary photographer Michael Kenna presents a gorgeous new collection of images, all photographed with plastic Holga cameras. Michael Kenna is internationally renowned for producing evocative black-and-white images of nature and the urban environment. Often photographing at night or in the early morning hours, the majority of his photographs involve long time exposures with the camera on a tripod. However, some of Kenna’s more quirky, whimsical, and unpredictable images have been photographed with inexpensive, hand-held, plastic Holga cameras. These cameras generally produce relatively lowfidelity images, with marked vignetting. Precisely because of these attributes and its portability, Kenna often carries a Holga camera, even when he is not specifically photographing. For this beautifully produced book, Kenna has chosen his favorite Holga images, many never seen before, from his vast archive of negatives. Robert Frank’s The Americans was first published on May 15, 1958 by Robert Delpire in Paris. It featured 83 of Frank’s photographs taken in America in 1955 and 1956, accompanied by writings in French about American political and social history selected by Alain Bosquet. Delpire’s Les Américains formed part of the Encyclopédie essentielle series, which presented foreign countries to a French audience. Each of Frank’s photographs in this edition is placed on a right-hand page, with the texts on the left-hand pages.
The first English edition of The Americans was published in 1959 by Grove Press in New York. It presented the same photographs as the Delpire edition, however a text by Jack Kerouac replaced the French writings. The book begins with Kerouac’s introduction, followed by Frank’s photographs in the same sequence as the Delpire edition. On the left-hand pages are short captions from Frank, which describe the location.
Since 1959 The Americans has been reprinted by different publishers, in multiple languages and formats. Frank has had varying influence on these editions; some were printed without his input, approval or knowledge. In July 2007 the Steidl edition of The Americans was printed. Frank was involved in every step of its design and production. The 83 photographs were scanned in tritone at Steidl’s digital darkroom from vintage prints in Frank’s collection, which revealed that many images in past editions were actually crops of the originals. For the Steidl book Frank studied and revised these crops and in many cases included the full photographs; in only a few cases the Delpire and Grove Press compositions remain.
The Steidl edition also reproduces two photographs printed from negatives different to those used for all previous editions. These photographs depict the same two subjects as in other editions (Metropolitan Life Insurance Building–New York City and Assembly Line–Detroit), but from a slightly different perspective.
Kerouac’s text and Frank’s captions remain unaltered from the Grove Press edition, the typography however was redesigned. As well as revising the book’s design, Frank also chose the paper, endpaper and book linen. He opted for a thread-stitched book, and conceived a new dust jacket made from the same paper as in the book (Xantur 170 g from Scheufelen, Germany), sealing it with a simple varnish. Frank personally oversaw printing on July 18, 2007, inspecting and approving each sheet at Steidl’s press in Göttingen.
In January 2009 the National Gallery of Art, Washington, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of "The Americans" with an exhibition that will examine both the construction of the book and the photographs themselves. All 83 photographs published in "The Americans" will be presented in the order established in the book, providing a detailed examination of the book's roots in Frank's early work and the impact on his later art.

日本摄影师秋山亮二拍摄的《你好小朋友》近年来在网络风靡。1983年出版的这本摄影集已绝版。拍摄对象都是1980年代初期中国的孩子们。
这本摄影集为中日双语版。登载有“樱花牌胶卷”的广告。现在的柯尼卡美能达（KONICA MINOLTA）当时名为“小西六”。因为小西六想在中国销售自己生产的“樱花牌胶卷”（1987年更名为柯尼卡胶卷），以中国为题材制作年历。当时中国还没有生产彩色胶卷，也没有冲洗彩色照片的地方。之后这个计划慢慢扩大、转变成为制作摄影集。在中国摄影家协会的帮助下，1981～1982年小西六邀请秋山先生拍摄。他5次前往中国，每次两到三周的时间逗留，拍摄了近8000张彩色照片，筛选116张出版了《你好小朋友》摄影集。拍摄地点包含北京，成都，昆明，广州，海南岛，上海，苏州，桂林，哈尔滨，乌鲁木齐・吐鲁番，呼和浩特等12个城市。
翻开这本摄影集，孩子们天真纯洁朴实的面容接连不断地闯入我们的视野，裹挟着无法言喻的乡愁。那是中国改革开放初期，整个社会向着新希望前行的特殊氛围弥漫着整本摄影集。作品出版之后至今的36年，也是中国发生巨变的36年。建筑、衣服、使用的包或者餐具、街边的垃圾桶，特别对于经历了那个年代的70后80后看来，这些物品无疑让他们倍感怀念。然而，比起这些，更打动人心的是孩子们脸上那种无所忧虑的神情。
我们近年通过媒体看到过很多有着悲伤表情的孩子们。由于地震等灾害失去双亲的孩子、从叙利亚死里逃生难民的孩子、被空袭轰炸失去家园的孩子、受虐待而进福利院的孩子、被应试烦恼困扰而自杀的孩子。但原本孩子的存在就是，不用工作不必担心金钱问题，只需玩耍和学习并应被无条件保护，看着这本书中被拍摄的小朋友们，再次真切感受到的确应该如此。所以明明不是自己的小孩，却被一种想要拥抱画面中每一个孩子的情绪溢满心田。随后又想到这些拥有明眸的孩子们创想的未来即是当下，一边想象他们现在过着什么样的生活呢，一边不自觉的又一次次翻开新的一页。
秋山先生在自身的著作中这么写道：“随着岁月的流逝，内容的深度也随之加深，怎么也看不腻的大概就是好照片吧。即使只有一张，也希望自己的照片中能诞生出这样的影像作品。”《你好小朋友》正是这样的作品。
很多人希望《你好小朋友》能够复刻。直到2018年11月16日，创立于京都的出版社青艸堂与秋山亮二先生达成复刻意向。历时半年终于完成复刻版的制作，在其社交媒体（新浪微博、instagram、facebook）持续更新了详细的制作过程。复刻版于2019年6月1日正式发行。

又称《你好小朋友》第二部。摄影家秋山亮二在1981-1982年五次来中国各地拍摄孩子们，于1983年结集出版《你好小朋友》后，余下约8000张底片，距今38年从未公开面世。2019年，他与青艸堂在制作《你好小朋友》复刻版的过程中，重新整理底片，也萌生了要将余下照片出版为一部新摄影集的想法。这便是《光景宛如昨》的由来。
2019年6月1日由青艸堂出版的《你好小朋友》复刻版，时隔36年后在中国首发，发行首日即告售罄。在上海、杭州、成都等地举办的签售及展览活动，各有超过500位读者参加、请秋山亮二签名留念的队伍大排长龙。同期在网络进行的、由多家媒体携手的“寻找秋山亮二镜头下的小朋友”活动，至今找到10位已长大成人的“小朋友”。秋山亮二与他们再度相见的场景也引发了众多讨论，不仅仅是在中国媒体上，日本NHK也将相关内容制作成了纪录片并进行了播出。
《你好小朋友》复刻版是在完全尊重1983年版的基础上进行再版，原样呈现了当时的视角与思考。时隔多年，77岁的秋山亮二看着仿佛昨天还站在自己镜头前的中国孩子们的笑脸，忍不住发出了“Dear Old Days”的慨叹。他也以这样的心情投入到《光景宛如昨》的选片编辑工作。他认为《光景宛如昨》与《你好小朋友》是互为阴阳的关系，《光景宛如昨》有着他在《你好小朋友》中未曾言尽的内容。
以独特视角选取的、极具图形设计感的构图，可以感受到温暖的氛围，一如既往展示了秋山亮二独有的世界观。拍摄了中国经济进入高速发展之前的、中国孩子天真无邪之姿的这本摄影集，既让许多人产生了“追忆过往时光”的一面，另一面也可说因为秋山亮二对孩子的独特视角而诞生出了这些几乎可称之为治愈奇迹的瞬间，超越了时代而抓住了读者们的心。不仅仅是“怀念”，其作为摄影作品的卓越品质，比作品本身更能让人有所感触。
与此同时，本摄影集也将焦点放在了让人产生时代感的背景、物品、庇护孩子的大人们的姿态、学校生活之中，似乎也可以由此更为近身地去俯瞰当时孩子们心中丰富的精神世界。老式自行车、洋铁皮的热水瓶和铅笔盒、露天的租书摊、幼儿园的攀爬梯、中山装、竹编的购物篮、漆着绿墙的教室和理发店、格子路和水泥地。它们无一不唤起了让人怀旧的心情。以及，虽然有的照片中仅有一个孩子，但也是和祖父母、双亲、兄弟姐妹或朋友、邻居们在一起的。这也重新让人感觉到只有在人与人的关联之中才能养育出，一直被守护着的、一直相依相伴着的孩子的笑脸。
本摄影集发行的2020年6月，因为COVID-19，社会生活已发生了剧烈变化，现在正呼吁着社交隔离。而在此时能让许多人切身感受到，可以触碰到他人的温暖，对人类的生存生活来说有多么重要。我们期望，从秋山亮二照片中酝酿而出的体温般的温柔与安稳，能再度治愈大家的内心。

This classic volume of colour photographs of Cape Cod is back in print in an expanded edition with a new preface and photographs from Joel Meyerowitz's continuing body of work taken on Cape Cod. Originally published in 1979, the book is regarded as one of the most influential photography texts published in the latter part of the 20th century. Common scenes - tiny figures on a beach, a porch railing against a storm-darkened sky, a blue raft against a summer cottage - are transformed by the poignant light of the Cape and the photographer's subtle vision.

A good street photographer must be possessed of many talents: an eye for detail, light, and composition; impeccable timing; a populist or humanitarian outlook; and a tireless ability to constantly shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot and never miss a moment. It is hard enough to find these qualities in trained photographers with the benefit of schooling and mentors and a community of fellow artists and aficionados supporting and rewarding their efforts. About the Author
There is still very little known about the life of Vivian Maier. What is known is that she was born in New York in 1926 and worked as a nanny for a family on Chicago’s North Shore during the 50s and 60s. Seemingly without a family of her own, the children she cared for eventually acted as caregivers for Maier herself in the autumn of her life. She took hundreds of thousands of photographs in her lifetime, but never shared them with anyone. Maier lost possession of her art when her storage locker was sold off for non-payment. She passed away in 2009 at the age of 83.
John Maloof is a historian, street photographer, and former real estate agent from Chicago’s Northwest Side. He discovered the first negatives of Vivian Maier’s work in 2007 while compiling a book about the history of the neighborhood where he grew up.
