On hearing the opening salvo of minor-key piano chords, the listener can assume that Parisian Sebastien Schuller's latest, HAPPINESS, has a title loaded with intended irony. This is no emotional walk in the park. Ear candy aplenty awaits, however, as ever-shifting soundscapes and over-digitized beats pulsate beneath Schuller's angelic vocal swoops. His voice--at times reminiscent of Antony's--and the seamlessly combined elements of French pop and experimental electronica make HAPPINESS worth the price of admission.
