Thinking In Numbers: On Life, Love, Meaning, and Math 豆瓣 Goodreads
作者: Daniel Tammet Little, Brown and Company 2013 - 7 其它标题: Thinking In Numbers
A stunning rumination on math and numbers from the bestselling author of Born on a Blue Day.

Thinking In Numbers is the book that Daniel Tammet, bestselling author and mathematical savant, was born to write. In Tammet's world, numbers are beautiful and mathematics illuminates our lives and minds. Using anecdotes, everyday examples, and ruminations on history, literature, and more, Tammet allows us to share his unique insights and delight in the way numbers, fractions, and equations underpin all our lives.

Inspired by the complexity of snowflakes, Anne Boleyn's eleven fingers, or his many siblings, Tammet explores questions such as why time seems to speed up as we age, whether there is such a thing as an average person, and how we can make sense of those we love. Thinking In Numbers will change the way you think about math and fire your imagination to see the world with fresh eyes.

Mathematical Statistics and Data Analysis 豆瓣
作者: John A. Rice Duxbury Press 2006 - 4
This is the first text in a generation to re-examine the purpose of the mathematical statistics course. The book's approach interweaves traditional topics with data analysis and reflects the use of the computer with close ties to the practice of statistics. The author stresses analysis of data, examines real problems with real data, and motivates the theory. The book's descriptive statistics, graphical displays, and realistic applications stand in strong contrast to traditional texts that are set in abstract settings.

Probability 豆瓣
作者: Jim Pitman Springer 1999 - 6
This textbook is ideal for an undergraduate introduction to probability, with a calculus prerequisite. It is based on a course that the author has taught many times at Berkeley. The text's overall style is informal, but all results are stated precisely, and most are proved. Understanding is developed through intuitive explanations and examples. Graphs, diagrams, and geometrical ideals motivate results that might otherwise look likely purely formal manipulations.
Linear Algebra Done Right (3rd ed) 豆瓣
10.0 (8 个评分) 作者: Sheldon Axler Springer International Publishing 2014 - 11
New edition extensively revised and updated
Covers new topics such as product spaces, quotient spaces, and dual spaces
Features new visually appealing format for both print and electronic versions
Includes almost three times the number of exercises as the previous edition
This best-selling textbook for a second course in linear algebra is aimed at undergrad math majors and graduate students. The novel approach taken here banishes determinants to the end of the book. The text focuses on the central goal of linear algebra: understanding the structure of linear operators on finite-dimensional vector spaces. The author has taken unusual care to motivate concepts and to simplify proofs. A variety of interesting exercises in each chapter helps students understand and manipulate the objects of linear algebra.
The third edition contains major improvements and revisions throughout the book. More than 300 new exercises have been added since the previous edition. Many new examples have been added to illustrate the key ideas of linear algebra. New topics covered in the book include product spaces, quotient spaces, and dual spaces. Beautiful new formatting creates pages with an unusually pleasant appearance in both print and electronic versions.
No prerequisites are assumed other than the usual demand for suitable mathematical maturity. Thus the text starts by discussing vector spaces, linear independence, span, basis, and dimension. The book then deals with linear maps, eigenvalues, and eigenvectors. Inner-product spaces are introduced, leading to the finite-dimensional spectral theorem and its consequences. Generalized eigenvectors are then used to provide insight into the structure of a linear operator.
From reviews of previous editions:
“… a didactic masterpiece”
—Zentralblatt MATH
“… a tour de force in the service of simplicity and clarity … The most original linear algebra book to appear in years, it certainly belongs in every undergraduate library.”
—CHOICE
The determinant-free proofs are elegant and intuitive.
—American Mathematical Monthly
“Clarity through examples is emphasized … the text is ideal for class exercises … I congratulate the author and the publisher for a well-produced textbook on linear algebra.”
—Mathematical Reviews

The Mathematics of Love:Patterns, Proofs, and the Search for the Ultimate Equation
