A Grief Observed
C. S. Lewis HarperOne 2001 - 2
In April 1956, Lewis, a confirmed bachelor, married Joy Davidman, an American poet with two small children. After four brief and intensely happy years, Lewis found himself alone and inconsolable. This is the unflinching account of how a stalwart believer lost his sense of bearings in the "mad midnight moment" of grief in the loss of a spouse.

No one ever told me that grief felt so like fear. I am not afraid, but the sensation is like being afraid."
