After nearly two decades of releasing on other people's labels, Icelandic producer Aðalsteinn Guðmundsson aka Yagya now launches his own new Small Plastic Animals imprint with a brand new album, Old Dreams and Memories.
This album marks another subtle move away from the icy dub techno sounds he has dealt in before, hence the need for a new label. It follows full lengths such as Stars and Dust and Sleepygirls, both on Delsin, as well as 2019's Stormur on A Strangely Isolated Place, and plenty of vital work as part of the Thule Musik collective. This acclaimed album specialist is known for his mastery of atmosphere, melody and mood and ability to create soothing and escapist soundtracks that make for utterly mindful experiences.
The new record still has a slowly propulsive rhythm underpinning every track, but they are only a small part of the overall picture. Some of the tracks are brought to life with vocals by Natsuko Yanagimoto and poems by Michizō Tachihara, while others are rich with naturalistic found sounds and saxophone by Óskar Guðjónsson.
Opener For The First Time has spoken words snippets that bring a real sense of intimacy to the sombre dub, 'Mountain Story' has gorgeous strings performed by Pablo Hopenhayn, who also appears on 'Reminiscent' with more solemn playing that brings a real melancholic beauty to the track. 'Memories of Old Dreams' is a beautiful ambient passage of spoken word that soothe the soul, 'Light And Shadow' is orchestral dub techno with a wandering lead that drifts like a cloud and 'Wandering In The Fog' has the sound of flowing water, gently lilting trumpets disappearing into thin air as soft drums roll on below. 'Rainbow And Human' pairs more whispered vocals with muffled crowd noises and yawning synths that bring the joy of a new day and the three closing tracks offer exquisite piano playing, warm but somehow also frosty dub landscapes 'Beauty In Loneliness' and a forlorn, violin-laced closer with 'Overflowing Darkness.'
Old Dreams and Memories is a rich symphony of luxurious sound, with transportive rhythms and hugely evocative layers of melody, the human voice and cinematic sampling all showing a further evolution in the art of this standalone producer.

《爱，回忆之海与旅行者3号LOVE, MEMORY SEA & VOYAGE 3》取名来源于《爱，死亡与机器人》，其实把 爱 这个词放在题目里是一个很难把握的事，很容易俗套也容易变得特别矫情，但放在并列的词组里就会弱化掉很多它原本的含义，反而让这个题目带有故事性。
回忆之海和 爱之间的关系是和我自己有关，我的人生经历或者说几乎所有人的人生都构建在爱与记忆之上，这是我们成为不同个体的前提。
旅行者号目前只发射了两艘，现实里并没有3号，这个词其实就代表了某种想象与科幻色彩。所以题目用这三个词来描述，就概括了整张专辑的核心——关于自我与未来。

到 15 年第二张 《鲸鱼马戏团 Vol.2 Whisper》漫游在繁华都市与旷野自然之间，凭借热烈的反响，获得第五届阿比鹿最受欢迎轻音乐/世界音乐奖，一首《老友》试听量破2000 万，似是怀想有人，其实是李星宇与自我的对话。
2017年《鲸鱼马戏团Vol.3 梦 Dreaming》则有意打破了“现实与梦境”的二元对立关系，也试图模糊理性和感性的边界。
2019年《鲸鱼马戏团Vol.4 ONLY THE STARS TO TEACH US LIGHT》穿梭于六个交错的时间、空间之间，星云的符号不停地随机组合。
《鲸鱼马戏团 Vol.5 爱，回忆之海与旅行者3号LOVE, MEMORY SEA & VOYAGE 3》则是我对于自身、以及对于这个世界，提出的一系列困惑。

Spread across two albums that function as one stunning piece of music, the Big Thief singer approaches familiar themes of loss, solitude, memory, and regret in some of the most vivid songwriting of her career.

For the past two years, Nils Frahm has been building a brand new studio in Berlin to make his 7th studio album titled All Melody. Since the day Nils first encountered the impressive studio of a family friend, he had envisioned to create one of his own at such a large scale. Fast forward to the present day and Nils is now the proud host of Saal 3, part of the historical 1950s East German Funkhaus building beside the River Spree. It is here where he has spent most of his time deconstructing and reconstructing the entire space from the cabling and electricity to the woodwork, before moving on to the finer elements; building a pipe organ and creating a mixing desk all from scratch with the help of his friends. This is somewhere music can be nurtured and not neglected, and where he can somewhat fulfill his pursuit of presenting music to the world as close to his imagination as possible.
His previous albums have often been accompanied with a story, such as Felt (2011) where he placed felt upon the hammers of the piano out of courtesy to his neighbours when recording late at night in his old bedroom studio, and the following album Screws (2012) when injuring his thumb forced him to play with only nine fingers. His new album is born out of the freedom that his new environment provided, allowing Nils to explore without any restrictions and to keep it All about the Melody. Despite being confined within the majestic four walls of the Funkhaus, buried deep in its reverb chambers, or in an old dry well in Mallorca, All Melody is, in fact, proof that music is limitless, timeless, and reflects that of Nils’ own capabilities. From a boy’s dream to resetting the parameters of music itself.

What did you listen to last summer? Masami Akita, otherwise known as Merzbow, spent most of his summer listening to Horace Andy, Studio One, Dennis Bovel, Keith Hudson and a whole pipe-full of other dub mavericks. That’s probably why this brand new full-length, with cover art by Jenny Akita, is dripping with deep bass riffage and a whole lot of electronic dub vibes and beats. Merzbuddha is third in the series of Merz-titled releases following in the audio footsteps of the flagship release Merzbeat. With the same reverence for crushing analog beats, weaving noise textures and a compositional complexity, Masami Akita switches direction and dubs it up. Imagine The New Blockaders in an audio blender with King Tubby and you’re not even halfway there.

Julia Shammas Holter (born December 18, 1984) is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, composer and artist, based in Los Angeles. A CalArts graduate, Holter released her first studio album, Tragedy, in 2011. Her second studio album, Ekstasis, followed in 2012. After signing with Domino Records in 2013, she released her third studio album, Loud City Song. Her fourth studio album, Have You in My Wilderness, was released in 2015, after which she released a live-in-the-studio album, In the Same Room, in 2017. Her fifth studio album, Aviary, was released in 2018.
Holter has also collaborated with other musicians, including Nite Jewel, Laurel Halo, Ducktails, Linda Perhacs, Michael Pisaro, and Jean-Michel Jarre.

Ryuichi Sakamoto has announced a new studio album, async, out April 28 via Milan. It’s the Japanese composer’s first studio album since 2012’s Three, with Jaques Morelenbaum and Judy Kang, and his first solo album in 8 years. Sakamoto recorded and conceived of the album in New York, taking inspiration from “everyday objects, sculpture, and nature,” according to a press release.

Musique Pour La Danse is proud to present Coil's unreleased soundtrack for the VHS only, pre-internet, sexual education documentary entitled "The Gay Man's Guide To Safer Sex" released in 1992. Members for this project are John Balance, Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson and Danny Hyde.
The OST, to quote John Balance's interview for Compulsion Online, "is [a] slightly new agey, progressive house type thing".
Another way to approach it is as a delightful collection of balearic beats, smoking jazz not far removed from Badalamenti's work with David Lynch, somewhat of an ambient house album for your home listening and early morning sunrise dances, Coil style.
Taken from the original masters provided by Danny Hyde, "The Gay Man's Guide To Safer Sex" features a new sexy edit of the main theme. Bonuses "Nasa-Arab" and "Omlagus Garfungiloops" are taken from the 1992 CD only "Stolen And Contaminated Songs", both being original versions of the radically reworked (for the OST) "Nasa-Arab 2" and "Exploding Frogs" in order to balance the whole album and extend the listening pleasure.

Following up the massively acclaimed Ravedeath , 1972 was never going to be simple, but then Canadian drone don Tim Hecker has never tak en the easy route. The artist has just announced his highly anticipated next full-length, and entitled Virgins it apparently loses much of the gristly distortion that has defined his work up until now.
The album was recorded in Reykjavik, Seattle and Montreal using woodwind, pianos and synthesizers and is billed as Hecker’s most defined to date, apparently drawing influence from the theological aspirations of early minimalist music.
We’re not sure what we think about losing the distortion just yet, but assisted again by Ben Frost and Valgeir Sigurðsson, you can be sure that we’re in for something that will surpass any expectations.
