Toshiko Akiyoshi is a Japanese-American jazz pianist, composer, arranger, and bandleader. She has received fourteen Grammy Award nominations and was the first woman to win Best Arranger and Composer awards in Down Beat magazine's annual Readers' Poll.

Ruins was made in Aljezur, Portugal in 2011 on a residency set up by Galeria Zé dos Bois. I recorded everything there except the last song, which I did at mother's house in 2004. Iʼm still surprised by what I wound up with. It was the first time Iʼd sat still for a few years; processed a lot of political anger and emotional garbage. Recorded pretty simply, with a portable 4-track, Sony stereo mic and an upright piano. When I wasnʼt recording songs I was hiking several miles to the beach. The path wound through the ruins of several old estates and a small village.
The album is a document. A nod to that daily walk. Failed structures. Living in the remains of love. I left the songs the way they came (microwave beep from when power went out after a storm); I hope that the album bears some resemblance to the place that I was in.

Arthur Tatum Jr. was an American jazz pianist who is widely regarded as one of the greatest in his field. Tatum grew up in Toledo, Ohio, where he began playing piano professionally and had his own radio program, rebroadcast nationwide, while still in his teens.

まさか福居良がこのような音源を残していたとは。1977年6月8日録音の完全未発表ライヴ音源である。
録音は札幌のライヴハウス<びーどろ>にて、福居の『Scenery』と『Mellow Dream』を手掛けたプロデューサー、伊藤正孝によって行われた。まさにあの時期の福居トリオの演奏であるが、同時に、スタジオ録音作品にはない圧倒的な熱量と鮮度があり、エキサイティングなことこの上ない。
16分に及ぶ鮮烈な「Mellow Dream」は言わずもがな、躍動する「Speak Low」、艶やかに紡ぐ「Body & Soul」、疾走する「Love For Sale」、重厚な「Mr. P.C」、.零れ落ちる「My Foolish Heart」と、熱に浮かされたような圧巻の演奏である。当時、このライヴから抜粋した音源がトリオ・レコーズ本社で認められ、セカンド・アルバム『Mellow Dream』制作の運びとなった。 あらゆる意味で貴重な音源である。
