In world music circles, Huong Thanh is one of the most prominent vocalists of Vietnamese origin. She has released three solo albums and two albums with Nguyên Lê, all of which have been highly acclaimed by the critics.

出生西贡，香清（Huong Thanh）来自知名的传统音乐家庭。父亲Huu Phuoc（逝世於1997年），是越南改良剧场Cai Luong剧的名角。Cai Luong将传统戏曲演唱、舞蹈与剧场结合，1916年由一群南方音乐爱好者引自北方剧场传统风格，结合Hat Boi与Hat Cheo等南方丝竹乐与法国音乐的元素再创而成。Cai Luong於30年代始，受到越南听眾的喜爱，不过今日越南的年轻人鲜有人听Cai Luong了，倒是随著越南船民往欧陆的迁徙，巴黎边界的越南社区，成为Cai Luong的新生地。
越南语有六个声调，曲与词互映，因此诗与乐需有极细緻的表情，才能将词意中的感情发挥得淋漓尽致。香清是其中的能手，他的转音、装饰音不但细腻，且多色泽。
香清十岁开始，由父亲传授Cai Luong与传统戏曲。她仍记得当时名演员都是家中座上客的盛况，而长辈们也随时指点香清唱腔。在那样环境成长的香清，13岁便掌握纯熟技巧，并进入西贡音乐与剧场学校就读，16岁初次在职业舞台崭露头角。
1977年，香清移居巴黎，跟随父亲在欧洲各地越南社区的Cai Luong剧场巡迴演出。1995年，与爵士吉他手Nguyen Le相识，被领入爵士乐坛，并啟程了他们共有的「越南故事」之旅。「越南故事」乐团几乎走遍了欧洲所有重要音乐节。1996年，他们灌录的专辑也在国际上获得许多荣耀与奖项。在爵士乐厂牌ACT下进行过许多合作计画，1998年，香清终於出版了第一张个人的专辑《月与风》（Moon and Wind），由 Nguyen Le写曲、录製，在专辑中呈现亲情与爱的主题。
2007年，香清得到法国世界音乐奖，并出版了第四张专辑─《脆弱的美丽》（Fragile Beauty），此张专辑中加入日本箏（koto）新星宫崎美枝子（Mieko Miyazaki），为他们的音乐增添不同色泽。本次音乐节就是由香清及宫崎美枝子的组合演出
