UK collection of hits and groundbreaking tracks from Joy Division and spin-off band New Order including a previously unreleased New Order track, 'Hellbent'. Despite an incredibly short recording career, Joy Division remarkably have stood the test of time in terms of influential British bands. Their dark, brooding sound has inspired more artists than could be listed and their continued adoration today is testament to the forward thinking yet inward projected music and lyricism of a young band on the brink of success yet unsure of how to deal with it. With the sad passing of Ian Curtis, from the ashes rose New Order; the same core band but with a new fresh approach to their chosen career path. Loud, colorful and full of life. Total is a chronological look at the two bands most important tracks. Warner.

"Atmosphere" / "She's Lost Control" is a single released by Joy Division following the death of lead singer Ian Curtis.
"Atmosphere" appears for the second time on a Joy Division single; it first was released on the "Licht und Blindheit" single with "Dead souls" on the B-side. "She's Lost Control" is an alternate version to the one that appears on the debut album Unknown Pleasures. This version, recorded in March 1980, appears along with "Atmosphere" on the compilation Substance.
The single peaked at #1 in New Zealand in August 1981, and it would later rechart there in July 1984 (#17) and when it was reissued in August 1988 (#5). "Atmosphere" also hit #34 in the UK during June 1988.
In 2000, "Atmosphere" was voted the greatest song of the millennium by listeners of John Peel's Radio 1 programme.[
