Brooklyn native funkateer Gabriel Garzón-Montano has mustered up just the right amount of soul, charisma and mystery to grab our attention and we’re certain that after hearing his debut release, you all will fall madly in love with him. Having spent years on the New York scene as the bandleader for funk band Mokaad, singing with EMEFE, drumming for Quincy Vidal and playing bass for Gospels, Gabriel has much more experience than your average newcomer.
Gabriel successfully stepped into his own spotlight early this year with the release of Bishouné: Alma del Huila. Introducing his eclectic funk-driven sound, he manages to show and prove just who he is within a mere 30-minute set. Having named The Beatles, Sly Stone, Prince and D’Angelo as his greatest influences, Gabriel makes it perfectly clear what he’s about on the EP’s heavy opener “6 8,” and even jazzes it up with a hint of Jamiroquai flavor on “Everything Is Everything.” Making the project even more impressive, Gabriel has panned out a minimalist approach by tracking out this entire project the analog way and recording just about every record in full takes.
If we had any complaints about Gabriel Garzón-Montano, it would be that the multi-instrumentalist’s catalog runs entirely too short (approximately 12-tracks if you count Mokaad’s Booty EP). From here on out we’ll be knocking records like “Keep On Running” and “Me Alone” on repeat while keeping our ears open for more from this young, fresh and new soul star.

The wait for D’Angelo’s new studio album is almost over: Black Messiah, the long-awaited follow-up to 2000’s Voodoo, will be available for purchase on iTunes beginning Midnight on Monday.
Black Messiah spans 12 tracks and includes contributions from The Roots’ Questlove, Q-Tip, and Kendra Foster (Parliament Funkadelic).
Of the album title, D’Angelo said, “For me the title is about all of us. It’s about the world. It’s about an idea we can all aspire to. We should all aspire to be a Black Messiah.”

<Break Of Dawn> (formerly titled <Milk & Honey>) is the fourth studio album from Bay Area vocalist Goapele after a five-year-long hiatus.
The first single, "Milk & Honey", was leaked on the Internet July 10th, 2009, while the video directed by David Telles went into rotation on August 4th, 2009, and was shot with the Red One Camera. It offers a more suggestive and seductive vibe then what fans may be accustomed to from the singer. Goapele is known to incorporate messages of politics, love, romance, and struggle into her music. The second single, "Right Here", is a love song produced by Drumma Boy.
On August 28th, 2011, Goapele released the third single, "Play", a sensual song produced by Dan Electric & Teddy Thunderbolt.
<Break Of Dawn> is being recorded at the Zoo in Downtown Oakland, California, home of Goapele's Skylight Studios. This project will be another personal album with several love songs as well as up-tempo joints. Production-wise, tracks with Drumma Boy, Bedrock, Kanye West, Dan Electric, Mike Tiger, Bobby Ozuna (Raphael Saadiq, John Mayer, Erykah Badu), Malay (John Legend, Mary J. Blige), Jeff Bhasker (The Game, Kanye West, Ludacris, T.I.), and other musicians are confirmed.
On this album Goapele reveals a more confident, open, and sensual side. She says she is liberating herself a little more and claims while there was something very empowering about appearing in a T-shirt without make-up on the cover of her first internationally distributed album, <Even Closer>, there is something equally empowering about shedding her fears of music-industry exploitation and strutting confidently into more brazen territory. She says, "Now if I want to dress sexy, I can, and if I want to be more blunt, I can. I just want to do what feels good."
