中国兵工学会成立于1964年。其宗旨是团结和组织科技工作者，以经济建设为中心，弘扬科学思想，促进学科进步，为国防建设和国民经济建设服务。其主要任务是围绕“三主一家”（即学术交流主渠道、科普工作主力军、国际民间交流主要代表和科技工作者之家）开展活动。

中国兵工学会设有会员、高级会员、会士、团体会员和通讯会员等5种会籍。现有会员近5万名，高级会员376名，会士20余名，团体会员150多个。学会自成立至今，已历经六届理事会。历任理事长是：王力（第一届，1964~1983年）；唐仲文（第二、三届，1983~1993年）；来金烈（第四、五届，1993~2003年）；马之庚（第六届，2003年至今）。

学会办事机构秘书处在理事会和常务理事会领导下，负责处理学会的日常工作。

中国兵工学会现有38个专业委员会，负责在各自的专业领域内开展学会活动，这些专业委员会的工作为兵器学科的发展和国民经济建设做出了重要贡献。全国有20 个省、直辖市和自治区成立了地方兵工学会，地方学会在业务上接受中国兵工学会的指导。为了开展工作的需要，理事会还设立了6个工作委员会，这些工作委员会作为理事会下的咨询机构，每年为理事会和学会工作提供重要的指导性建议。

中国兵工学会主办10多种学术、技术和科普性期刊。以《兵工学报》为代表的学术刊物已成为国防领域最重要的学术论文发表园地；以《兵器知识》为代表的科普刊物，已经成为军事科普园地中最具影响力的刊物。

中国兵工学会还承担行业内在职科技人员的继续教育任务，兵器工程师进修大学从1990年创办至今，累计招生27万人次，已成为兵器工业重要的教育基地。

中国兵工学会在兵器工业领域，在军队系统和国防工业有关部门，拥有较高的威望和凝聚力，许多优秀的科技人才，都是通过兵工学会提供的科技舞台，向社会展示他们的优异成绩，最终被社会所承认。学会成立40年来，培养和涌现了一大批杰出的科技精英，他们目前已成为兵器和国防工业最出色的学术带头人。作为兵工科技领域唯一的学术团体，由于认真履行了国家赋予的各项职责，工作开展得有声有色，连续被中国科协评为第一、第二届先进全国性学会。

《德军轻型巡洋舰1939-1945》主要内容是：德军轻型巡洋舰1939—1945，第二次世界大战时期德国海军的战舰数量较少，然而它们当中却有当时世界上技术最为先进的主力舰。这也意味着虽然德帝国海军认为德军舰队在与英军舰队作战时会处于不利的境地，但从单艘战舰的作战能力来看，其战舰都要比英国皇家海军过时的战舰先进，这种对比在德国轻型巡洋舰舰队上表现得尤为明显。德国海军仅有六艘轻型巡洋舰：“埃姆登”号、“莱比锡”号、“科隆”号、“柯尼斯堡”号、“卡尔斯鲁厄”号和：‘纽伦堡”号。《德军轻型巡洋舰1939-1945》对这些战舰在二战期间的设计、改进以及多次的作战历史都详尽地进行了描述。

The Yamato and its lesser-known sister-ship Musashi were designed in the 1930s to take on American battleships in a climactic duel for control of the Pacific. Neither vessel ever saw a US Navy battleship, but by the time they were committed in the final battles of 1944–45, both would face overwhelming American naval air power. By 1944, the US Navy had combined its rugged Avenger torpedo-bombers with an improved air-launched weapon to create a formidable ship-killing capability. Augmenting the Avengers was the US Navy's newest dive-bomber, the Helldiver, which also proved rugged in service and carried a fairly large bomb load. When the Japanese committed both of their super battleships in the defense of the Philippines in October 1944, the power of American carrier aircraft proved sufficient to sink Musashi. Only months later, in April 1945, American aircraft repeated their performance against Yamato.

The fifty-ton British Centurion tank, developed during the darkest days of the Second World War, was designed to out-gun and out-perform the latest German tanks, such as the formidable Panzer V Panther. It was one of the most successful tanks ever produced, and this volume in the TankCraft series by Robert Jackson is the ideal introduction to it. The Centurion came into service too late to test its ability in action with German armour, but in the post-war world it earned a fearsome reputation in action during the many conflicts of the Cold War era, from the Middle East to Vietnam.
