初版是在1995年，以《一寸山河一寸血》为名推出；1997年，为纪念卢沟桥事变60周年，摄制组完成重返旧战场之旅，走访中国十一个省，纪录片修改第二版，以《卢沟烽火60年》为名推出； 1999年再次修订第三版，以《山河岁月》推出。第四版，仍然以《一寸山河一寸血》为名。2007年，卢沟桥事变70周年，得到郭台铭资助，修订出第五版《走进中日战争——一寸山河一寸血》。
2014年11月18日，中视丰德宣布与台湾著名纪录片导演陈君天就引进纪录片《一寸山河一寸血》版权达成合作共识。由中视丰德出资购买纪录片《一寸山河一寸血》大陆版权，由陈君天导演与中国创作团队，共同编辑、完成纪录片《一寸山河一寸血》第六版《民族抗战》。

本片讲述了乔治·华盛顿在1776年反抗英军的特伦顿战役（Battle of Trenton）中，他领导美军跨越德拉瓦河（Delaware River），成功突袭黑森雇佣军（Hessian）的兵营。
