Sparklehorse 的新专辑,5年的时间,酝酿出这张专辑。Sparklehorse独立界中的大牌,Sparklehorse是来自美国维吉尼亚的独立乐队,组建于1994年底。其灵魂人物Mark Linkous曾经是80年代中期独立乐队Dancing Hoods的成员。我对于他们专辑影响最深的就是我开始接触他们的第三张专辑《It’s A Wonderful Life》,他们的音乐融入了另类摇滚、噪音流行、乡谣、诡秘的实验音效、LO-FI以及一些美妙忧伤的曲调。从细腻恬静到焦虑聒噪,Sparklehorse将音乐从似是而非的对抗渐渐引入富于人性化的和谐,不落俗套的编曲也显得格外流畅自然。

很奇妙,风格并不完全统一,总体来说像踏入了有精灵居住的森林?你可以看到春天的冰川融化,潺潺流水岸边的野花。Cosmo这小哥实在太有意思了,看他采样的视频,有些音频样本是用蘑菇得到的,声音-色彩-触觉的共感可以创造出新的音乐形式。

mocca是印尼独立流行乐团的翘楚,乐队已经成立7年,一共出版了3张唱片。除了Friends和Untuk Rena两张以外,还有一张极为著名的My diary。
mocca有四位团员,分别是主唱arina, 吉他riko,贝斯toma以及鼓手indra。arina和riko毕业于同一所大学,他们在学校的时候就组了一支乐队,以唱口水歌为主进行表演。没多久arina和riko就厌倦了这种鹦鹉学舌的表演方式,他们开始自己创作。他们的音乐大都是轻快的,充盈着各种快乐的元素,比如bossa bova,disco以及华尔兹等等。这与海岛驻民天生的乐天和单纯不无关系。如果音乐是有颜色的,那么mocca的就是蓝、白、橙,蓝色的天空,白色的云朵和沙滩,以及橙色的太阳。

mocca的音乐是非男性化的,我个人怀疑可能是因为arina比较强悍的缘故,现在看来这是件好事,mocca的音乐因此总是柔软而细腻,就像南洋人爱喝的白咖啡一样温润爽滑。mocca的首张唱片my diary,灵感来自于一个女孩的日记,通过这个女孩子记录在日记本的点点滴滴mocca为我们复原了这个爱情故事。从最初的毫不相干,到偶遇,到情愫暗生,而后矛盾挣扎,好不容易决定勇敢接受,却遭遇破碎的结局。女孩终于明白,雨总会下的,太阳总会出来的,生活不可能一马平川。

我想这就是Rosie Thomas这张新专辑诞生的原因,远离正常的唱片生产流程,没有studio,没有producer,没有deadline,甚至乾脆跳过了厂牌发行这一块,直接把这张专辑放在网上贩售,这一次Rosie Thomas随性得很彻底。
这张专辑里的曲子是Rosie Thomas与她的好友Sufjan Steven和Dension Witmer共同在Sufjan位于纽约的公寓里录制的,开始时他们甚至没有打算做出一张专辑,只是几个同是音乐人的好友聚在一起写歌唱歌而已,好比古时文人相见总要吟诗作对,把酒言欢一般自然,他们所有的设备也只是几个在客厅、卧室、厨房里随意安置的麦克风而已。许多歌曲是Rosie Thomas一写出来后,其他两人立即配上其余的部分,在Rosie自己忘记之前录制下来的,没有雕琢的成分,即兴的味道颇浓,当然,不变的还是Rosie Thomas一贯的清新温暖的民谣风格.

Rosie Thomas has a delicate, weird little voice and it's never really been the forefront of her music until now. The preteen Joni Mitchell/ choirgirl strains of her vocal tones are something to be played up, not down; thankfully she's finally realized that on her Nettwerk debut and fourth solo album. The album also includes studio patter tacked onto the beginning or ending of the songs, awesome little snippets of Rosie's famous comedic wit. Such material works in the album's favor, grounding the material by showing that Thomas is not some precious freak-folker. It also gives a glimpse of her live performances, where Rosie sometimes performs as a neurotic woman in a neck brace hopelessly in love with Leo DiCaprio named Sheila (really). The record's title likely refers to the batch of famous friends who act as accompanying musicians throughout. Thomas's core of musical compatriots in vaguely Christian dreamy emo folk-rock is here expanded from Pacific Northwesterners Damien Jurado, David Bazan, and Jeremy Enigk to include New Yorker Sufjan Stevens. Sufjan and Rosie duet beautifully and breathlessly on their cover of R.E.M.'s "The One I Love." This sparse and Beatle-length album (ten songs, just over half an hour) is her strongest by far. The grizzled modern persona of Tom Waits finds new life on Alice, a slow, grave record that explores physical and moral decay with the same harrowing insight of 1992's Bone Machine. Originally written as an opera with his longtime songwriting partner, playwright Kathleen Brennan, the songs on Alice were performed live in a Hamburg theater for 18 months in 1992 and 1993, but were never committed to tape (officially, at least). This studio recording retains a sense of narrative cohesion, giving Waits a set of tormented and bizarre characters that go well with the motley crew he's assembled over the years. It is, in fact, the most consistent record of Waits's career, offering not only a stable train of thought, but a musical approach that, while featuring the same vaudevillian touches that have characterized his work since Swordfishtrombones, finds a voice all its own. Without much percussion to back them up, violins, cellos, and horns dominate the record, bathing Waits's familiar growl in a sly, slow cacophony that sounds like an underwater fugue, the notes like rust on the strings. "Watch Her Disappear," with its sparse, sad pump organ, and the twisted torch song "Reeperbahn" have the smoky café mystery of Edith Piaf by way of Leonard Cohen, recovered from the water-logged tapes in Cole Porter's long-lost dingy. It's a burst of dark, world-weary poetry for lonely Saturday nights, cloudy days on the beach, or long strolls through graveyards. --Matthew Cooke
