Virgin Black，哥特金属中的异类，但绝对可以称得上是澳洲哥特金属的一面旗帜。90年代成立于澳大利亚Adelaide的五人乐团Virgin Black由主脑Rowan London，一位曾经向正统歌剧演员学习唱功的歌手和其他四位成员：主音吉他手Samantha Escarbe，鼓手Dino Cielo， 贝司手Ian Miller和节奏吉他手Craid Edis组成。2000年推出了他们处女作，也是惊世绝俗的一张专辑：
Sombre Romantic。不到50分钟的歌曲中尽现其恢宏磅礴之气质，黑暗而阴郁气息笼罩着荒凉的处女之地。
开场的一曲Opera de Romantic－Stare，如凝固般的歌剧却由小提琴悲凉的独奏与教堂唱诗般的肃穆引出，逐渐引出庞大的合唱与恢宏的背景，恍如置身于中世纪充满宗教色彩的歌剧院中一般，Rowan London一开始就让我们感受到他那不俗的唱功，高昂而丰满的歌喉呈现了正统歌剧演员的气质。
第二曲Embrace是Opera de Romantic的第二部分，从第一部分肃穆的唱诗引出，却是骤然爆发的吉他，是歌颂绝望还是拥抱毁灭？在一片钟鼓的敲击声中眼前徐徐拉开了黑色歌剧的帷幕，嘎然而止的气息中惊疑不定地等待着第一幕的开场。
Walk Without Limbs：缓慢的大提琴后依次加入鼓与吉他，鬼魂附体般的邪恶低吟弥漫在空气中与正统的美声唱诗班交织，一时令人陷入手足无措的惶恐当中，最后却是一段出人意表的industrial，堕入了云中雾里。
...Of Your Beauty: 自己最喜欢的一曲。唯美有时不是由于完整的美感而且凄凉的美感产生的，Rowan流畅的钢琴中渐渐逼近，饱含着感情的歌词中透出不可掩盖的悲哀，莎士比亚四大悲剧式的经典落泪情节近在咫尺，有Mecabeth不祥的阴霾，也有Hamlet复仇的呼唤。
Drink The Midnight Hymn：压抑以久的强烈情感终于到此如滂沱大雨般的倾泻而尽，尽情享受虐待般的自我折磨，悲哀的自我感伤完全转化为自虐般的发泄，无眠的午夜，自我陶醉与午夜后那阵鲜血淋漓的畅快。
Museum of Iscariot的trilogy－Stagnation，Death和Procession：继而我们进入了犹大的内心世界。开场气势非凡的背景音乐恍如进入了一片开阔的异域。8分钟的三部曲歌词层层深入，写得甚为震撼，"What can I do, you've forseaken me, you called yourself messiah, and expected me to follow, and now he lays dead." 身处犹大的角色将万能的真主耶稣钉死在谎言与无能当中，音乐虽然缓慢而低沉，但却充满强烈而反感的情绪。叛教的冲动来源于对神与宗教的神灵功力的怀疑与自身的切肤之痛，继而发展为对传统与正规的颠覆。
Lamenting Kiss：零星的钢琴声有如飘零而下的冷雨，木讷漠然的呢喃中陷入了寒冬般的严酷。突然而至的吉他是破坏悲凉寂静的不速之客，就如突然而至的鹅毛大雪足以把人处死于无助与寒冷的荒野之地。抽泣已经被冻僵，连热吻也不久被严寒所封固，这连飞鸟也不敢逗留的不毛之地是埋葬幻想与希望的坟场。
Weep For Me：只有在哀悼你的时候，我们才能够放声大哭。
I Sleep With The Emperor: 与君王共寝，赤裸地躺在奢华的锦被当中战栗，浪漫的宫殿中虽然侍从如鲫，歌舞生平，但是锦衾与国王温暖的怀抱并不能给我脆弱的心灵带来安全的感觉，我只能在清醒的惊恐中数着打更的声音。
A Poet's Tears Of porcelain：磅礴的唱诗班又回来了，为崇高的诗人唱的挽歌。“你的形象无比伟大，你的内涵无比高深，你的贞操无比圣洁，我们只能跪倒在你的脚下默默膜拜，为你的夙愿而牺牲，我毅然的双唇绝不会露出一丝畏缩。”，虽然你先我们而去，但请用你纯洁高贵的光芒指引我们找到最终的幸福，让我们跟随你高洁的品质继续行进。
后记：2003年刚过去不久的6月Virgin Black推出了第二张专辑Elegant and Dying，这张专辑中Rowan London更是呈现出他刚学成不久的笛子功力。而新专辑虽然没有如Sombre Romantic般把doom，black，industrial，classics等元素和莎士比亚式的悲情色彩糅合进goth metal中，但是却体现更多的gothic情绪，长达20分钟的长篇巨著The Everlasting中呈现他们深不见底的音乐造诣。Virgin Black是一支值得关注的goth metal乐队，并不与如今泛滥着的渣滓同流合污。

This album opens with a brand new song showcasing the band in the zenith of their career. This is funeral doom the way it is meant to be, but Shape Of Dispair manage to make it sound almost catchy at the same time, no mean feat! From the bright, blood-red doomsday sun glow of the said song, 'Sleeping Murder', it is time to preceed deep down to the vale of shadows. And shadows, they sure are plentiful here. Whether it is the rehearsal track from ten years ago (time flies swiftly on black wings!) or the promo tracks dating from 1998, the deternimation and aim of the band shines through clear as ice. 7 tracks. Vali 是挪威音乐人 Vali 以自己名字命名的个人乐队(他不愿透露自己的真实姓名, 仅以 Vali 为名), 风格以民谣为基调, 乐器也多使用原声吉它, 钢琴, 长笛, 大提琴, 以及小提琴. 在它的身上, 似乎能看见另一个 Empyrium 的影子, 它们都是在在北欧漫漫寒夜里成长, 不过, Empyrium 大抵是站在黑暗的中心, 而 Vali 至少是与月光有过约定的...
2003年底, Vali 在 Soundclick 上传了一首小样, 之后不久, Foreshadow 就来联系他了, 2004年 Vali 在 Foreshadow Productions 旗下发行首张专辑 Forlatt. Forlatt 的意思是 "被遗弃的", 专辑的音乐如同从黑森林最幽深黑暗的中心流淌而出的涓涓细流, 在森林边缘的月光下的晶莹水光, 映照出的却是另一个仙境梦影. 这张专辑的反响极好, 许多人争相收藏.
2006年初, Vali 与 Prophecy 的分支厂牌 Auerbach 签定了五张专辑的唱片合同.
Vali 是 Vali 的首次音乐尝试. 不过在 "Forlatt" 发行的前后, 他作为吉它手与歌手 Cecilie 一起成立了名为 Skumring 的厄运金属乐队. 2004 年发行了首张 Demo, 首张专辑 De glemte tider 于2005年4月在 Aftermath Music 厂牌下发行. 这支乐队一直处于不太稳定的状态, 2004年的那张DEMO录制完成后, 鼓手 Knut 离开了. 2006年初节奏吉它手 Ole 也离开了, 至今仍未找到适合的新队员.

Frowning was founded in January 2011, impressed by Funeral Doom bands like Pantheist and Evoken Val wrote the first song: Day In Black. Then a few other songs came (Death Song, The Vicious Circle). But they all just were uploads on youtube. In Autumn 2013 Frowning decided to make a Split-EP with the british Doomband "Aphonic Threnody". The Split came out in April 2014 and is called "Aphonic Threnody VS. Frowning Of Graves, of Worms and Epitapths". The CD was released under the russian label GSP-music. After that EP the californian label Wretched Records asked for a contract - Frowning signed. Now the debutalbum "Funeral Impressions" is coming and will be released in 25th Oct 2014 under Wretched Records.
