Inside the Epstein Files
Inside the Epstein Files
Louise Milligan / Emily Maitlis / Amy Wallace
The Epstein Files are not just about one man’s crimes, but about the systems that protected him and failed women — and girls — for decades.

Calls for the Epstein Files to be released have dominated headlines, fuelled presidential campaigns and instigated an Act of Congress mandating their release. Despite all that, to date only about one per cent of the millions of documents, photographs, videos and other evidence collected in several federal US FBI and Department of Justice investigations have seen the light of day.

American journalist and writer Amy Wallace collaborated with Epstein survivor Virginia Roberts Giuffre on her memoir Nobody’s Girl, published months after her death, while British journalist Emily Maitlis famously put Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on the record about his involvement with Epstein’s dark world. Join them for a critically important discussion that looks beyond spectacle to examine the institutions that turned a blind eye, the lawsuits now seeking redress and what justice looks like when perpetrators evade consequences but survivors live with lasting harm.

Ancient Ways for Current Days: Women, Goddess, & Communities of Peace Goodreads
Jennifer Cameron Independently published 2021 - 12
The patriarchy, or male-led society has been the dominant way for the last 4,000 years ...

But what about the 230,000 years before?

In this stirring and insightful book, historian Jennifer Cameron lays out the bare facts of how the patriarchy has shaped the modern way of life, and how women and the planet have suffered terribly as a result. She shares the little-known story of the matrifocal way of life, where women are leaders and people are equal and live in harmony with nature. This was how humans lived across the globe for the vast majority of our history, and as Jennifer explains, there is much we can learn from this way of life now.

With stories spanning across all parts of the globe, from Europe to Asia to the First Nation Peoples in Australia, Jennifer examines the place of women in civilisations and how this has shaped the way we interact with each other and with the world around us.

Ancient Ways for Current Days is a timely call to action that offers women and men an alternative to our current destructive way of life. It is a must-read for anyone looking for hope and a better way, where women and men live in harmony with each other and with Nature, for the benefit of all.

Being and Being Bought: Prostitution, Surrogacy and the Split Self Goodreads
Kajsa Ekis Ekman Spinifex Press 2013 - 11
Grounded in the reality of the violence and abuse inherent in prostitution – and profoundly affected by the death of a friend to prostitution in Spain – activist and writer Kajsa Ekis Ekman exposes the many lies in the "sex work" scenario in this polemic in which she also criticizes the booming surrogacy industry. The author places the theory that it is possible to separate the "self" from the body, thus making it possible to sell the body for sex without compromising an individual's fundamental human dignity – a key argument of the pro-sex worker narrative – under the microscope. Taking the belief at face value, she extends it to the practice of surrogacy, pointing out that if a woman is neither connected to her body nor to the child that grows within her, surrogacy itself can be viewed as a form or prostitution where the product sold is a baby, rather than sex. If this is the case, Ekis Ekman argues, is surrogacy not a form of child trafficking? Written with a razor-sharp intellect and disarming wit, this illuminating exposé seeks to highlight the dangers of commodifying the human body and presents both prostitution and surrogacy as emotionally fraught enterprises rife with power imbalances and the potential for abuse.
Not Dead Yet: Feminism, Passion and Women's Liberation Goodreads
Susan Hawthorne / Renate Klein Spinifex Press 2021 - 7
What was it like to participate in the Women’s Liberation Movement? What made millions of women step forward from the 1960s onwards and join it in different ways? Many of the fifty women in this book were there. They describe how they have contributed in multitudinous ways across politics, the arts, health, education, environmentalism, economics and science and created wonderfully subversive activism. And how they continue this activism today with determined grittiness. Here are women – all over 70 years of age – still railing against the patriarchal systemic oppression of women, still fighting back. The contributors to Not Dead Yet have created new analyses with new language and new kinds of organisations always aware of the ways in which the system is stacked against them, particularly against radical lesbian feminists. But they persist. They share the revolutionary zest they have carried with them over many decades. There is history, there is subversion and there are many extraordinary acts of courage. The language is full of irony and wit – as well as deadly serious.

Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters 豆瓣 Goodreads
Irreversible Damage
Irreversible Damage
is an exploration of a mystery: Why, in the last decade, has the diagnosis "gender dysphoria," transformed from a vanishingly rare affliction, applying almost exclusively to boys and men, to an epidemic among teenage girls?

Author Abigail Shrier presents shocking statistics and stories from real families to show that America and the West have become fertile ground for a "transgender craze" that has nothing to do with real gender dysphoria and everything to do with our cultural frailty. Teenage girls are taking courses of testosterone and disfiguring their bodies. Parents are undermined; experts are over-relied upon; dissenters in science and medicine are intimidated; free speech truckles under renewed attack; socialized medicine bears hidden consequences; and an intersectional era has arisen in which the desire to escape a dominant identity encourages individuals to take cover in victim groups.

Every person who has ever had a skeptical thought about the sudden rush toward a non-binary future but been afraid to express it—this book is for you.

Feminism, Defeated Goodreads
Kate M. Phelan Polity 2025 - 4
Feminism has been defeated.

Once a politics, feminism is now a philosophy, an epistemology, a method. Once for women, it is now for everyone. Once in pursuit of liberation, it now seeks only inclusion.

In Feminism, Defeated , Kate Phelan traces the depoliticization and ultimately, the defeat of feminism. She recovers the second-wave view of men and women as sex-classes, enemies, political kinds, a view more radical than the contemporary view of men and women as social constructs. She also describes how poststructuralism displaced this view and replaced it with another. In this view, the sex/gender binary constructs men and women, and excludes the gender nonconforming.

As this view replaced the second-wave one, the injustice of men’s oppression of women was replaced by that of exclusion, and the goal of women’s liberation was replaced by that of inclusion. Thus did feminism become the trans-inclusionary movement as which we now know it, and Phelan shows that this shift was not the progression of feminism; it was the betrayal of it. In this highly original and persuasive study, she argues that the recent emergence of a new gender-critical feminism presents a moment of opportunity to reclaim feminism’s political project.
Whipping Girl: A Transsexual Woman on Sexism and the Scapegoating of Femininity 豆瓣 Goodreads
Whipping Girl
A provocative manifesto, Whipping Girl tells the powerful story of Julia Serano, a transsexual woman whose supremely intelligent writing reflects her diverse background as a lesbian transgender activist and professional biologist. Serano shares her experiences and observations — both pre- and post-transition — to reveal the ways in which fear, suspicion, and dismissiveness toward femininity shape our societal attitudes toward trans women, as well as gender and sexuality as a whole.
Serano's well-honed arguments stem from her ability to bridge the gap between the often-disparate biological and social perspectives on gender. She exposes how deep-rooted the cultural belief is that femininity is frivolous, weak, and passive, and how this "feminine" weakness exists only to attract and appease male desire.
In addition to debunking popular misconceptions about transsexuality, Serano makes the case that today's feminists and transgender activist must work to embrace and empower femininity — in all of its wondrous forms.

Patriarchy Stress Disorder 豆瓣 Goodreads
Patriarchy Stress Disorder: The Invisible Inner Barrier to Women's Happiness and Fulfillment
Despite checking off the boxes of worldly accomplishments, most high-achieving women are secretly dissatisfied. They feel stuck in lives that look perfect on the outside, yet on the inside, they’re unfulfilled, plagued by the nagging feeling that there’s got to be more. They feel guilty and ungrateful for feeling trapped in lives that are so good. They disown their pain, or numb it with excessive work, eating, drinking, shopping, social media, or exercising. They search for solutions in books, meditation, yoga, therapy, medication, and workshops, but something is still missing.
They wonder: What’s wrong with me?
Dr. Valerie Rein has worked with hundreds of high-achieving women and discovered that the issues they all struggle with are not just personal—they’re rooted in the ancestral and collective trauma experienced by women in the patriarchal world for millennia. In Patriarchy Stress Disorder, Dr. Rein describes how this trauma creates an invisible inner prison, that holds them back from stepping into the full power of their authentic presence, unbridled joy, outrageous success, freedom, and fulfillment.
In this book, Dr. Valerie explains:
- Why you’re dissatisfied in spite of your achievements, and why it's not your fault.
- What secretly drains 90 percent of your time and energy, and how to reclaim it.
- How to upgrade your game of “How much can I bear?” to “How good can it get?”

The Second Sex Goodreads
Simone de Beauvoir Vintage Publishing 2015 - 3
'Everyone who cares about freedom and justice for women should read The Second Sex ' Guardian

Simone de Beauvoir famously wrote, 'One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman'. In this groundbreaking work of feminism she examines the limits of female freedom and explodes our deeply ingrained beliefs about femininity. Liberation, she argues, entails challenging traditional perceptions of the social relationship between the sexes and, crucially, in achieving economic independence.

Drawing on sociology, anthropology and biology, The Second Sex is as important and relevant today as when it was first published in 1949.

Doublethink 豆瓣 Goodreads
Doublethink: A Feminist Challenge to Transgenderism
In an age when falsehoods are commonly taken as truth, Janice Raymond’s new book illuminates the ‘doublethink’ of a transgender movement that is able to define men as women, women as men, he as she, dissent as heresy, science as sham, and critics as fascists. Meanwhile, trans mobs are treated as gender patriots whose main enemy is feminists and their dissent from gender orthodoxies.
The medicalization of gender dissatisfaction depicted by Raymond in her early visionary book, The Transsexual Empire, has today expanded exponentially into the transgender industrial complex built on big medicine, big pharma, big banks, big foundations, big research centers, some attached to big universities. And the current rise of treating young children with puberty blockers and hormones is a widespread scandal that has been named a medical experiment on children.
Whereas transsexualism was mainly a male phenomenon in the past with males undertaking cross-sex hormones and surgery, today it is notably young women who are self-declaring as men in large numbers. The good news is that these young women who formerly identified as ‘trans men’ or gender non-binary, are now de-transitioning. In this book, they speak movingly about their severances from themselves and other women, their escape from compulsive femininity, their sexual assaults, the misogyny they experienced growing up, and their journeys in recovering their womanhood.
Doublethink: A Feminist Challenge to Transgenderism makes us aware of the consequences of a runaway ideology and its costs — among them what is at stake when males are allowed to compete in female sports and when parents are not aware of school curricula that confuse sex with gender and that can facilitate a child’s hormone treatments without parental consent.
On the Meaning of Sex: Thoughts about the New Definition of Woman Goodreads
Kajsa Ekis Ekman Spinifex Press 2023 - 2
A new definition of woman has taken hold in Western societies. Instead of a matter of biology and material reality, we are told it is an identity. Anyone who declares herself to be a woman is a woman; the body has henceforth become irrelevant. Gender, we are told, is a spectrum, and it resides in the mind. In countries such as Norway, Canada, Argentina, and Australia, laws have been enacted that give anyone the right to change his or her legal sex, irrespective of whether the person has had a medical procedure. At the same time, the industry for gender reassignment surgery is growing at an unprecedented pace. Seven out of 10 teenagers who seek treatment are now girls. The new definition of sex has been hailed as progressive. But is it really? And is it new? In this groundbreaking book, Swedish feminist and Marxist author Kajsa Ekis Ekman traces the ideological roots of this new definition.

If this really were a fact, all these texts would hardly have been necessary. For example, there is no two thousand year production of texts trying to convince us that plants cannot walk. Why altering the definition of "woman" makes no sense: if you're a woman by self-identifying as one, can I self-identify as 6 years old? Or African? A woman is someone born with XX-chromosomes and egg cells. Period. We need the word "woman" — all oppressed groups must be named to organise and fight. Any attempt to erase or redefine "woman" is a full frontal attack on the women's movement. Interesting asymmetry: why is no one redefining the word "man"? trans women in women's spaces (including sports) Women are being excluded from their own spaces in the name of inclusion. The reason trans women don't feel safe in men's spaces is the exact same reason why some women may not feel safe in their presence. If trans women can claim women's rights, why can't women claim trans rights? A cis woman who says she identifies as a trans woman is told she's "appropriating an experience she doesn't have" — but a trans woman who claims she's a woman is celebrated? Another asymmetry: trans men are not accepted into men's spaces because those are policed by violence, not rules. Only women's spaces — policed by rules — are forced to open their doors. backlash against TERF So much hatred towards TERFs — but what about the men who actually conduct violence and even murder against trans people? No murder or targeted crime against trans people has been committed on the basis of feminism. The men who actually carry out violence? There's not even a word for them. this is really anti-feminism in disguise: "the woman spoke, and thus provoked the man to hit." Feminism doesn't need to include every group that's oppressed to be legitimate. about trans Is there really something wrong with their bodies that needs to be fixed? Or is the "gender incongruence" they experience due to toxic social stereotypes around sex? Why can't a girl dislike dresses? Why can't a boy love dolls? Gender identity theory victimises trans people in the name of protecting them — treating their bodies as faulty, sacrificing their fertility, offering no apology when damage is done. Thus, women are feminine, men are masculine, and that is the way things are supposed to be. Advocates of gender identity theory hold that gender determines sex. In other words: those who are feminine are women, those who are masculine are men, and that is the way things are supposed to be. Same coupling, different order, which amounts to a kind of postmodern biologism. Conservatives and gender identity theory proponents alike believe in gender congruence – the idea that a particular body matches a particular personality. Feminists counter this: sex should be liberated from gender. Sex has nothing to do with the oppressive hierarchy of sex stereotypes that is called gender. For feminists, sex is unproblematic, and gender is the culprit that should be abolished.
