《摩斯探长前传》第二季于2014年3-4月在英国ITV播出，新一季由《宝藏》、《夜曲》、《摇摆》、《永无乡》四个故事组成，单集片长为90分钟，Russell Lewis担任编剧，Shaun Evans继续出演主角警探摩斯，摩斯探长系列小说原作者Colin Dexter依旧为本剧担任顾问。四集导演分别由Kristoffer Nyholm、Giuseppe Capotondi、Andy Wilson、Geoffrey Sax担任。

Bertie is back in New York and enamoured of portrait painter Gwladys Pendlebury but Aunt Agatha is not enamoured of the painting of her Bertie commissioned and she is even more annoyed when her wayward twin sons, charged to Bertie's care before being shipped off for colonial posts, give him the slip to pursue a cabaret singer. Tuppy Glossop arrives to sell his family recipe for cock-a-leekie to soup magnate Slingsby to finance his nuptials to Elizabeth but slimy ad man Lucius Pim steals Gwladys from Bertie and makes Aunt Agatha the unwitting face of Slingsby's soups on every billboard in New York.

Fleeing from the twin horrors of prospective marriage and the baleful Aunt Agatha, Bertie sails to New York with Jeeves, where he hopes to lie low but instead he is charged with minding the ultra-shy mother's boy Wilmot, son of Lady Malvern, and showing him the high life. Oddly enough Wilmot takes only too well to the night-spots of Manhattan, wearing Bertie out in the process. Tuppy Glossop also arrives, to talk about car exportation with wealthy businessman Mr. Stoker. Unfortunately Tupper's business plan is nowhere near as lofty as it should be.

Romantic entanglements are complicated by a unique silver cow creamer that is desired by both Bertie's Uncle Thomas and his rival, Judge Sir Watkyn Bassett. Sir Watkyn purchases the creamer by telling the shopkeeper, falsely, that Thomas had sent him. Bertie's Aunt Dahlia and friend "Stiffy" Byng both want him to steal the creamer for different reasons, but Judge Sir Watkyn has already sentenced him once (for stealing a bobby's helmet) and he doesn't want to go to jail.

根据世界级英裔美籍著名幽默作家P.G.Wodehouse的系列作品改编，编剧Clive Exton同时也是ITV拳头剧《大侦探波罗》(Poirot)系列的主力编剧。主演史蒂芬·弗莱(Stephen Fry)和休·劳瑞(Hugh Laurie)均为剑桥出身，与爱玛·汤普森(Emma Thompson)等当年同在剑桥Footlights表演俱乐部演出(Monty Python主要成员也出身于此)，两人均多才多艺，剑桥之后在电影、电视、广播领域长年合作。国内观众对这两位的印象可能主要来自Richard Curtis/Ben Elton编剧、罗温·艾金森(Rowan Atkinson)主演的《黑爵士》(Blackadder)系列。小说作者P.G. Wodehouse，通译沃德豪斯(1881-1975)，英国小说家和喜剧作家。以塑造“绅士中的绅士”Jeeves这一形象而闻名，1955年入美国籍。《万能管家》中的主角是迷迷糊糊的英国绅士Bertie Wooster （其实就是个250）和他的聪明机灵、花样百出的男仆Jeeves，几乎每一个故事都是由主人荒唐的行为转变成不可收拾的困境，但是最后总是由男仆出人意料的机智解决。

故事发生在上世纪的三十年代，路易斯（凯莉·霍威 Keeley Hawes 饰）的丈夫意外去世，留下了四个孩子格兰特（米罗·帕克 Milo Parker 饰）、劳伦斯（乔什·奥康纳 Josh O'Connor 饰）、莱斯利（卡伦·伍德豪斯 Callum Woodhouse 饰）、玛格（黛西·沃特斯通 Daisy Waterstone 饰），以及一笔遗产。如今，这笔遗产已经被花的差不多了，孩子们亦在渐渐长大，问题日益凸显，使路易斯感到力不从心。

A high-ranking but un-named Agent in the British Government resigns from his job/post and leaves for a holiday. While packing he is gassed and is taken to a beautiful but deadly prison known only as "The Village" where people are taken, given a Number to be called by and kept there for the rest of their lives if they don't tell No. 2 (the deputy head of "The Village") the information they are captured for. Escape is nearly impossible as "The Village" has amazing but deadly weapons to use if anybody tries to escape. The Agent is given the title of "No. 6" but he adopts the name of "The Prisoner". The series tells of his attempts to resist the plots of each No. 2 (who is replaced with another if an attempt on No. 6 fails) to get his information and against any attempt to disrupt the nearly peaceful running of the "The Village". The Village is determined to crack The Prisoner by attempting to get the answer to why he resigned from his job/post.
