北欧对众多金属迷来说真是一个熟悉的地区，北欧国家音乐的多元性使他们在Heavy Metal的发展上一点也不逊色，其中又以Black/Death Metal最令人咏赞。 Children of Bodom，为来自北欧千湖国-「芬兰」的新生代Melodic Death(MD)乐团，发迹于芬兰首都赫尔辛基城郊的一个城市；其团名的典故起源于芬兰境内的一桩骇人听闻的凶杀案，地点即是在赫尔辛基郊旁的泊登湖 (Lake Bodom)，在1960年6月5日时，四位青少年 (分别为二位15岁、二位18岁) 在当地露营遇害，仡今尚未破案，唯一生还的一位则因受创过巨，仍在接受心理的治疗与辅导。
C.O.B在1997年发行第一张正式专辑「Something Wild」，2003年「Hate Crew Deathroll」，在意境灵感上亦来自于泊登湖凶杀事件，歌词反复叙述着死亡、黑暗与恐惧等议题；音乐性探讨方面，Children of Bodom被归类至旋律死亡金属(Melodic Death Metal)，乃因他们的音乐结构亦是将原本粗暴的Death Metal用美旋律加以点缀，富有旋律性的歌曲往往是一般人较能接受的曲风。大量采用急速的双吉他旋律与华丽流畅的键盘相互搭配、时而劲飙，贝斯与鼓点也有优秀的表现，主唱兼主奏吉他手Alexi Liaho在死腔的表现方面唱法略带邪恶但充满吸引力。Children of Bodom用充满速度感的方式来诠释旋律死亡金属，令人赞叹团员更是个个技巧能力一流，乐风丰富的旋律性及披有一层speed曲风外衣，也引起芬兰一阵这种类型音乐的风潮，这不但是MD迷不容错过的专辑，也是一般乐迷进入MD世界的入门必备作品
