South of Beirut, Lebanon is a 68 year old refugee camp housing refugees from Palestine, Syria and Iraq. Many have lived in this camp their entire lives-- Mariam AlShaar is one of them. Now, Mariam has pulled the women of this camp together to do what has never been done before. They started with a small kitchen from a micro-loan. With nearly insurmountable political odds against them-- they look to start the first refugee food truck. Their journey is one of many ups and downs but it is the community that is built, their sense of hope and how they see themselves that makes this a moving, touching film about their journey. Mariam has been known as 'the crazy lady' and now she will show just how crazy she is.

It then follows his journey back to his fractured homeland to finally reunite with his wife and kids. But a lot has changed, and Yousef must confront the current realities in both his family and his country and decide if a new life in America is really still the right path for them to take.

Corner Store faithfully documents Yosuef's resoundingly universal tale of hard won choices for a better life, now set on the back drop of San Francisco and modern-day Palestine. Compelling and emotionally-engaging, the film is a story about community relationships, cultural understanding, immigration, and the politics of living in an occupied territory. Even more, the film is about family, the sacrifices people make for each other, and the deep connections that bind us all together.

Mustafa Abu Ali, born in 1940 in Maliha, Palestine, is a Palestinian filmmaker. Died 30 July 2009 in Jerusalem, Palestine.
Ali studied cinema in London, graduating in 1967. One of the founders of Palestinian cinema under the auspices of the PLO, and the Palestinian Cinema Association in Beirut in 1973, (re-established in Ramallah in 2004), he has written four screenplays and directed more than 30 films, for which he has won more than 14 awards, the most recent from the 2003 Ismailia Film Festival.

Call her a freedom fighter or a terrorist; Leila Khaled was the first woman to ever hijack an airplane. Born and raised in Haifa, in the 1960s Khaled became one of the most celebrated and reviled public figures of the PFLP. Raised by Palestinian exiles in Sweden, the filmmaker considered Khaled her teenage idol. Yet, settled into a seemingly conventional middle age in exile in Jordan, Khaled hardly seems the picture of revolutionary zeal the filmmaker imagined. Archival footage and engaging interviews with a still fierce Khaled, as well as the pilots, flight attendants, and passengers from the planes Khaled and her comrades hijacked, bring together public context and personal history with the passage of time to tell the stories of those harrowing flights and the woman who was willing to die to free her country

Overs Rock, often dubbed 'romantic reggae' is a uniquely black British sound that developed in the late 70s and 80s against a backdrop of riots, racial tension and sound systems. Lovers Rock allowed young people to experience intimacy and healing through dance- known as 'scrubbing'- at parties and clubs. This dance provided a coping mechanism for what was happening on the streets. Lovers Rock developed into a successful sound with national UK hits and was influential to British bands (Police, Culture Club, UB40) These influences underline the impact the music was making in bridging the multi-cultural gap that polarized the times. The film sheds light on a forgotten period of British music, social and political history.
