地主撒寇为了发更大的财，准备在他乡下的土地上盖个纺织厂。一切都准备妥当了，但是向波的两亩地却夹在他的土地中间，要是向波不肯把地卖给他，他的计划就要受到阻碍。撒寇便把向波找来，要他卖地。对于种田人来说，土地是命根子，向波无论怎样也不肯卖地，撒寇便想出了一条毒计，把向波欠他的六十五块钱旧债，七算八算变成了二百多块钱，并且告到法院那里，要向波偿还债务。向波是个老实人，这个恶毒的地主从来不给他一张收据，向波空口无凭，结果被法院判决在三个月内偿还债款，过期就要把他的土地和房屋作抵。
向波到处奔走，一个钱也借不到。有一个好心的邻人告诉他：乡下没有办法，还是到加尔各答去试试看，城市里遍地黄金，挣钱比较容易。向波被逼得走投无路，就跟他有病的父亲和年轻的妻子芭萝告别，动身到加尔各答去。他的儿子格奈杨是一个活泼伶俐的小孩子，竟偷偷地跟他上了火车，向波没有办法，也只好带他一起走了。
到了加尔各答，人生地不熟，父子俩睡在马路上，包袱和旅费都给小偷偷去了，格奈杨又发起烧来。向波把他背到一个小客栈里，暂时安顿一下。他们的隔壁住着一个叫做大哥的单身汉，是个年老的人力车夫，这天也正患着病，向波热心地照顾他，大哥非常感激，就教他学会拉洋车。这虽是个苦活，向波也只好开始拉洋车了。格奈杨为了帮助父亲挣钱，也在街上给人擦皮鞋。父子俩克勤克俭，只想多挣几个钱，还掉那笔阎王债。向波天天奔波着，就为了这三个月的期限，把他绞得心都发痛了。
一天，向波在拉车时拼命奔跑，突然车轮飞开了，车子压伤了他的腿，回来后躺在床上不能起来。格奈杨心里着了急，眼看限期快到了，就跟一个认识的小偷要了五十块钱，以补足最后缺少的数目。向波知道了钱的来历后，逼着他把钱送还给小偷。
芭萝在乡下知道了丈夫受伤的消息，亲自赶来看望。不幸在街道上受了一个骗子的欺诈，她忙着奔逃时给汽车撞伤了。刚巧向波拐着腿出来拉车子，看到是自己的妻子，不禁心如刀割，没奈何把她送到医院里，施用手术急救，向波只好把三个月辛辛苦苦积蓄的钱，付出一大笔做医药费。等芭萝伤愈出院，夫妇来带着孩子回到乡下时，土地和房屋早被地主霸占了，地主的纺织厂正在兴建，有病的父亲也早已被逼得发疯而失踪了。

Skanderbeg, the who kept the Otoman Empire for nearly 30 years away from Western Europe, and kept the small country of Albania united. This movie is a great one. Unlike "Troy" or "Alexander" this one has its own goods. There are the scene fights, small love lines, and magic if you ask me. This historic movie about the Albanian hero "Skenderbeu" is what a family movie should be about. Is educational and not very violent, and as far as my opinion I think of it as a PG-13 movie. Would be great if Hollywood creates a version of this movie, I, my self believe it wold be great to experience something with the great technology at hand now and compare it with the 1970's version of this movie. There is anything about this movie that all the other movies should have, meaning. There is clearly a very good history line behind this movie. Starting in the beginning with a abduction of the Albanian brethren to the day when "Skenderbeu" betrays the Turks and gets back to its place, Albania.
