More than anything, it feels like the entire movie was built around showing off the fairly cool and original-looking monster makeups, which is also where the majority of the budget seems to have gone. There's a general unevenness of tone that makes the movie seem almost like a kiddie comedy at times, aside from the hard R-ness of literally everything else about it, which made it kind of a weird watch but I'm glad I stuck with it.
