FLOPUARY #9: At first I was surprisingly charmed by this one, because Ferrell and Reilly do have a fun chemistry as two reasonably smart/talented guys who are especially good at playing extremely dumb guys. That said, I felt my enjoyment sapping away on almost a scene-by-scene basis, as it becomes clear that they just didn't have any kind of script in place before starting to shoot, and the movie dissolves into a series of vignettes that don't build so much as just kind of accrete into something that happens to be feature-length. I won't say that this is a total waste of the comedic talent that they brought on board, but I do feel bad for Comedy Bang Bang MVP Lauren Lapkus (with her delightful knack for voice/character work) is stuck playing a semi-mute character for almost the whole movie. She deserves a great mainstream film-comedy vehicle, and this was not it.
