FLOPUARY #16: Although I have a lot of respect for Edwards' general approach to sci-fi, I feel like this one treads (*very* slowly) over a lot of the same ground as other sci-fi dealing with the concept of synthetic life/consciousness and doesn't do much to interrogate it in ways that we haven't seen dozens of times before. If nothing else, I do think that the filmmaking techniques on display here do help point a way forward for filmmakers who want to do SF/fantasy themes within a certain budget, but other than that it feels a bit generic in its treatment of the near-future dystopia action movie genre.
