FLOPUARY #19: Slept on this one for far too long! It's kind of amazing to realize that William Friedkin managed to totally fly under the general audience's radar with not one, but at least TWO separate era-defining thrillers within a 10 year span. I've always loved Peterson's crazy scenery chewing in Michael Mann's MANHUNTER, but he's like a force of nature here. The slow-burn revelation that he's not just a hard-boiled, morally-grey cop but rather a full-blown agent of chaos with a badge is a bold decision that Friedkin totally makes good on.
