2022 CULT MOVIE CHALLENGE WEEK 12: RARELUST WEEK Another one of those movies that feels like it's just barely a movie, as opposed to just being a series of R-rated America's Funniest Home Videos gags. At its best, it's like a backyard-wrestling version of Re-Animator, complete with a lead actor trying to chew scenery in emulation of Jeffrey Combs. At worst, it's approximately 15 times hornier/rapier than any invisible-man movie has ever been and that is saying something. There's a whole lotta boobs in this movie, in a way that ironically made me actively dread seeing them after a while. By the end I felt like I had developed some sort of mutant sixth sense that could detect when a female character's breasts were about to be rudely exposed by fishing line attached to her clothes. Really the only kind of interesting or surprising thing in the whole movie is the deeply surreal dream sequence in which the mentally handicapped school janitor has a lengthy nightmare about being terrorized and mauled by a parade of topless punk rock chicks. I don't know what it's doing here other than laying bare some additional weird fantasy of the director's. For that I have to give it some credit for being a clear auteurial choice instead of sticking to the dull on-rails invisible maniac plot.
