HOOPTOBER ONE NIGHT SEVEN: + PODCAST MACABRE 2022 HORROR CHALLENGE #43: WRITTEN AND/OR DIRECTED BY A WOMAN On a first viewing, it felt like a fairly slow burn, coming across more as a Schraderesque character study than a typical religious-horror film. I wish perhaps that it had been a bit longer and gave us more opportunities to delve into Maud's backstory prior to the film's action. The link to William Blake seems crucial, although I don't know enough about Blake's life and experiences specifically to say whether there's a deeper significance than the main character having her own bespoke spirituality and hallucinating a lot.
