ℍ𝕆𝕆ℙ𝕋𝕆𝔹𝔼ℝ 𝔼𝕃𝔼𝕍𝔼ℕ ℕ𝕀𝔾ℍ𝕋 𝕋𝕎𝔼ℕ𝕋𝕐-𝔽𝕆𝕌ℝ: More of a horror-adjacent con artist movie than anything else, with memorable characters and performances from the cast along with some very fun simulated spiritual seance stuff done with shadow puppetry and stage magic effects. I saw this on the newly-issued "Tod Browning's Sideshow Shockers" box set from Criterion, which includes a couple of movies that I'd seen before (FREAKS and THE UNKNOWN) along with this one in its first-ever home video release. The newly-recorded score by frequent David Lynch collaborator Dean Hurley is worth a listen on its own, and the print and titles look great after nearly 100 years.
