HOOPTOBER ONE NIGHT TWENTY-FIVE: Of the last few Ben Wheatley movies that I've watched, this one captures the psychedelic weirdness of the first Wheatley I saw (A FIELD IN ENGLAND) in a way that invites a second or third viewing more than most of his others. Although it's very clear in hindsight that this was a movie made under COVID restrictions with a very limited cast and isolated locations, Wheatley and his players carry it off in a way that feels like a natural consequence of the film's story and themes. The stray references to an outside world ravaged with some unknown illness are clearly pointed at the post-pandemic reality, even if the story doesn't focus on it directly.
