a review of 战地恶魔

HOOPTOBER ONE NIGHT THIRTY: I think I'm going to need to give this one another spin sometime soon, since I think it actually improves a bit in my memory after having seen it than my initial impressions right afterwards. It is still kind of a puzzling jumble of tones, going from quasi-historical drama to Coens-esque black comedy to outright horror, with the intensely weird Nyman/Albarn score seeming to contradict whatever the movie is going for at every turn. It's fascinating to watch, and the performances are all pretty incredible (OK fine, maybe not David Arquette) but there's something about the way it's all assembled that feels like it's putting distance between itself and the viewer. For me it was an easy-to-like but hard-to-love masterpiece.
