2022 CULT MOVIE CHALLENGE WEEK 20: VINEGAR SYNDROME WEEK I went into this one not knowing exactly what to expect beyond the premise, and came out of it fairly mixed but glad that I had seen it. One of the things that bothered me initially about the main character was that I expected him to be a little bit more of a dyed-in-the-wool film buff, with a deeper understanding of the movies he loves. But after thinking about it for a while, I realized that it's a pretty good depiction of the fanboy mentality, of being obsessed with surfaces instead of the actual core of things, and the inner emptiness that results from that. It's not enough to raise my rating for this watch, but I'm interested in giving it another try with that reading in mind. (As other reviewers have noted, this movie is also a much closer match for the Todd Philips JOKER movie than the Scorsese movies it attempts to ape, to the extent that I wonder if Philips was even aware that he was doing it.)
