a review of 死亡飞车2050

#19: Death Race 2050 (Netflix) On the eve of the presidential inauguration, I thought this might be appropriate viewing. Like the tongue-in-cheek original, it's a bit of a mixed bag, putting low-budget gore side by side with high camp media satire. I didn't realize that this would be a near-remake of the original, with practically the same overall story arc and lots of gags pulled directly from it. Although the gore FX have been turned up slightly, and the social critique pitched closer to modern sensibilities, it's still basically a 90-minute late-night comedy sketch. And true to form, it starts getting a bit creaky halfway through and just sort of ends abruptly. If you dig the original or cheesy gore comedies, check this one out. But don't expect anything that will blow your mind, necessarily.
