After months of hearing people talk this one up, I finally went for it. And maybe I should've watched it earlier, because after all that buildup, I wanted this one to be just that little bit more. As a metal-centric mashup of early Sam Raimi and Peter Jackson with some added Edgar Wrightesque stylization, it's perfectly fine, albeit a bit half baked. I wish more effort had been made to define the characters and their motivations, and the rules of the central threat. As it is, it never really becomes more than the sum of its parts, which is a shame.
