2019 CULT MOVIE CHALLENGE WEEK 35: MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 WEEK For this one, I chose the very first complete episode of MST3K to air on KTMA in Minneapolis. Watching it now, it's clear to see that Joel Hodgson and cohorts didn't necessarily know what the show was going to be at first. The puppets and the "shadowrama" gimmick were already in place, but the jokes and interaction with the film almost seem like an afterthought. Over the course of the episode, Joel starts to find his rhythm in riffing over the Supermarionation escapades of the Stingray TV series, but for the most part it's like he's just hanging out and watching the movie with us at home.
