HOOPTOBER, NIGHT FOURTEEN: Such a weird but indisputably fun combo of the Body Snatchers and the Blob. Larry Cohen is absolutely swinging for the fences here, even if he doesn't always quite connect with his ideas. I should have stopped underestimating Michael Moriarty's ability to surprise and unnerve me after I watched Q last year, but here he is again with another mannered/wacko method performance giving his character roughly twice the level of quirk than necessary for playing a B-movie hero. I'd love to see somebody try to remake this for the social media age, but it would definitely be a tightrope walk in terms of getting the tone right.
