HOOPTOBER, NIGHT TWENTY-FOUR + 2019 CULT MOVIE CHALLENGE WEEK 43: Slasher Week The further we get out on Friday the 13th sequels, the less essential they tend to seem. There's very little in this one that really and truly differentiates it from the previous six movies, particularly the first few until the arrival of Tommy Jarvis as series protagonist, so I guess you could see this one as kind of a return to form. That is, except for the fact that the heroine of this one is -- for no discernible reason I can name -- a telekinetic girl (basically Carrie with the Stephen King copyright scratched off) who ends up pre-enacting the final reel of Home Alone with Jason in hilarious fashion. This fight gives us perhaps the best and longest look at Jason's face in the entire franchise thus far, and the makeup is far better than the obvious rubber head seen at the end of Part IV, so I guess an argument could be made that the art is advancing even if the storytelling isn't. The ending is perhaps the biggest "HUH?" moment in the entire series, and I wouldn't dream of spoiling it here, except to make sure you don't zone out and look at your phone when it happens, because it's 100% wild.
