2019 CULT MOVIE CHALLENGE WEEK 44: WEREWOLF WEEK Things that we learn about Larry Talbot 10 minutes into The Wolf Man:

  1. He is a Large Adult Son of British nobility, but as played by Lon Chaney Jr, he sounds like a guy from Lincoln, Nebraska.
  2. He's skilled with building precision telescopes, but he's not really into astronomy.
  3. But he is into peeping in ladies' windows, which also ties into his other big interest: Pick-up artistry. I'm developing a better appreciation for Karina Longworth's unmasked disgust for LCJr in the "Bela & Boris" podcast miniseries she did a few years back. I'd seen a handful of his late-career work from the 60s (public domain streaming stuff like "Spider-Baby" and "Hillbillies in a Haunted House") and figured that he was just old and tired at that point, but it turns out he was always just kind of a doughy lunk? Either way, I think I just got my answer for why the Wolf Man was used more as a utility player than a leading monster.
