2020 Cult Movie Challenge Week 10: PM Entertainment Week It needs to be said straight off the top that Anna Nicole Smith is maybe only the third-worst actor in this whole movie, immediately behind the dull stiff playing her husband, with both of them way behind actor-turned-German politician Charles M. Huber as the frankly goofy Shakespeare-quoting arch-villain. It's clear that the producers intended his character as the Hans Gruber of this particular Die Hard knockoff, but instead, he comes across as silly lightweight. For what it's worth, every time Smith opens her mouth I actually believe that she is reacting naturally in the moment, in exactly the way that her character would because her character is literally just her with a thin layer of action-heroine skills on top of her inescapable Anna Nicole Smithness. Her second scene in the film is a minutes-long shower montage shot barely differently than a video Playmate calendar, and somehow she makes it out of that with more dignity than anyone else in the film. The action scenes definitely aren't bad for the level of B-action movie that this is, but the monotony definitely sets in around the half hour mark, which makes this less a campy/fun romp and more of a slog in spite of its obvious cult value.
