2020 Cult Movie Challenge Week 17: Shot On Video Week I went into this one not knowing exactly what to expect, and found a pretty mixed bag. The cheap VHS aesthetic combined with the amateur-level performances and frequent use of psychedelic video effects (the latter of which becomes more and more distracting over time), feels like a solid evolutionary forerunner of the Everything Is Terrible/Tim & Eric comedy style. There's a couple of scenes that are clear homages to Romero and Hooper, which are executed well enough to make me wonder if the filmmakers might have had bigger ambitions going forward. Ultimately the thing that sunk this movie for me was its lazy, repetitious pacing and dated humor, which to be fair is part and parcel of the Troma style. On the other hand, if you're not a fan of seeing sexual assault in your horror movies, maybe don't watch this one; It literally ends with a poorly conceived and executed zombie-rape joke that left me shaking my head in disgust.
