2020 Cult Movie Challenge Week 29: Cynthia Rothrock Week I'd been led to believe by other Letterboxd reviews that this movie had a lot more Rothrock than the first one, and as such I feel a little deceived. After watching both Martial Law films in close succession, I feel like the inescapable flaw of the series is that it thinks we're interested in the fairly uncharismatic main dude when his girlfriend (Rothrock) is a much more interesting and relatable character who gets relegated to sidekick status. Rothrock gets maybe a little bit more to do, and even gets to have her own undercover bartending subplot that gives her some extra opportunities to kick ass, but the plot keeps shoving her off to the side to focus on a bunch of largely interchangeable baddies with slicked-back ponytails and business suits.
