2020 Cult Movie Challenge Week 34: American International Week I was pleasantly surprised at what a nice little slice-of-life film this was; It reminded me a lot of American Graffiti, but with a greater sense of hard consequences for its characters just by virtue of telling the story of the kids on the other side of the tracks. I think modern audiences more used to seeing the early '60s setting rendered with a bit more period authenticity might balk at how much this looks like a '70s movie, but I appreciated how it was clearly looking at that time from a ten-years-later perspective rather than a less visible lens, just because of how much really had happened in that time and what it would have meant to the filmmakers.
