Hooptober Night Three: Now this is how you adapt Lovecraft. Remove all of the racist reactionary claptrap, as well as the layers of nerd pandering nostalgia cruft from decades of Cthulhu RPGs. They go straight into the can. Retain that core of terrifying uncertainty about the comprehensibility and fairness of the universe, and center it smack dab on characters who are convinced that they have it all figured out. Spend the running time tearing their lives apart and leave them nothing that is recognizable, not even their own flesh, minds, or identities. Make the audience realize that what they're seeing is not just some wild narrative cruelty being visited upon fictional humans, but rather an uncanny metaphor for the breakdown of norms in a civil society. Don't provide any answers, just show what happens when people don't pay attention to what they let into their lives and let them draw their own conclusions.
