Hooptober Night Eight: It's interesting in light of having just finished a full rewatch of Twin Peaks (both the original series and The Return) to notice how this idea of curdled 1950s Americana was just kind of in the air in the late '80s, to the point that The Blob's small-town setting and cast feel a bit like a first-draft version of the show. Part of that undoubtedly has to do with casting director Johanna Ray's involvement in both (David Lynch regular Jack Nance even shows up in a cameo) but there's also a sense that they're playing with the same set of cultural archetypes, just in different ways.
