Hooptober, Night Twenty-Three: Charlie Kaufman finally adapts his late brother Donald's unfinished screenplay, "The Three." Like Kaufman's other outings as a writer and director, this one turns out to be another supersad-bastard narrative for neurotic eggheads, and there's maybe a little bit of bait-and-switch built into the premise. But somehow it all works as a weird psychological metathriller that resists the urge to tie itself up neatly, even if a chunk of the audience will probably figure out some of the twists and tricks of the story ahead of time.
