Hooptober Night Twenty-Five It had been a very long time (at least 15 years) since my last watch of this, to the point where I barely remembered any specific scenes or even characters. So I was pleasantly surprised at how much this movie was completely unlike a fairly broad swath of the movies that claim it as an influence. Although it is credited with reintroducing the "fast zombie" as a threat, the actual zombie thread of the movie comprises far less of the actual narrative than I remembered. Instead you have this nice little Danny Boyle drama about nice working-class folks living through a calamitous situation, and it's not really until we get to the last third of the movie with the military occupying the mansion that we understand that this is really about the things that human beings will do in extreme situations and how they can survive without losing all humanity.
